The role of Theatre Healthcare Assistant is essential to the smooth day-to-day function of the operating theatres. You will assist the surgical team in fulfilling their duties and help to ensure the smooth and safe movement of patients through their surgical pathway.
MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The post holder will ensure the safety and wellbeing of patients at all times.
To deliver basic care based on policies, procedures, and current guidelines.
The post holder will participate in induction programs in house training and staff appraisal, while assisting in the provision of support for pre-registration learners.
The post holder will be familiar with Hospital policies and procedures.
The post holder will always respect confidentiality.
The post-holder will be involved in the development of standards of care to ensure the highest quality of nursing care.
To function in a theatre environment ensuring comprehensive care of the patient under the supervision of the Nurse.
The post holder will ensure that complaints, suggestions and queries are promptly reported to the Clinical Services Manager.
To ensure adherence to Hospital Policy in relation to safe handling, administration, storage and custody of medical products and the provision of the misuse of Drugs Act, 1971.
To maintain a personal knowledge of all current Hospital Policies and Procedures and to practice in compliance with the same.
The postholder: Is expected to participate regularly in audits of clinical practice and may be asked to participate in data collection for clinical trials.
To participate in the monitoring of the effectiveness of the nursing contribution to the overall programme of patient care.
The postholder will maintain accurate, legible records relevant to each patient in accordance with statutory / NMC / HCPC and Trust / Department requirements, e.g. Holistic patient care notes, Entry of medication (under supervision of registered practitioner) Swabs / instruments / sundries counts Sterility / traceability checks Health & Safety / equipment checks Theatre Register
Prepare / check the Perioperative environment pre-operatively, clear / check the Perioperative environment post-operatively
Assist in the movement of conscious / unconscious patients Continuously through a range of specialised positions to facilitate anesthesia, surgery or recovery.
Assist in the transfer of conscious / unconscious patients between Frequently trolley / operating table / bed
Assist in the manipulation of operating table / accessories and positioning of patients for anaesthesia / operative procedures / recovery.
To assist the Nurses within theatre to ensure the smooth running of the theatre list
To ensure that there are adequate stock levels within the theatre area and liaises with the theatre sister with regards to stock levels.
To report all accidents/incidents to the Nurse Manager promptly and participate in the investigation of the same.
To ensure all clinical waste is removed promptly and safety in accordance with Hospital regulations.
This post is full time, (37.5hrs) to be worked over a 7 day rota and the applicant should be flexible in their working arrangements as we operate on a changing rota basis, including evenings and weekends to meet with patient needs. (weekend working will be paid at an increased rate of plus 30%).
The role is subject to a DBS check at Enhanced Level.
