LGR Crane Services provides professional inspection, servicing, maintenance and repair services for cranes and lifting equipment across the UK.
As the business continues to grow, we are looking for an experienced and motivated Service Manager to take responsibility for our service operation, managing a growing team of engineers working both from our workshop and at customer sites.
This is a key position within the business, responsible for ensuring our engineers are well organised, properly supported and delivering a high-quality service to our customers.

Someone who understands that good service isn't just about fixing a crane — it's about communicating with the customer, supporting the engineer, solving problems and making sure the job is completed safely and professionally.
The Role
As Service Manager, you will oversee the day-to-day service operation, coordinating a team of field-based and workshop engineers and ensuring customer requirements are dealt with efficiently and professionally.
You will be the key link between our customers, engineers and management team, making sure the right people and resources are allocated to each job and that work is completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage, motivate and develop a team of field-based and workshop engineers.
- Plan and allocate engineers to customer breakdowns, servicing, repairs and planned maintenance.
- Coordinate the day-to-day service workload and ensure jobs are prioritised appropriately.
- Act as a key point of contact for customers regarding servicing, repairs, breakdowns and maintenance.
- Monitor jobs from initial enquiry through to completion.
- Ensure engineers have the correct information, parts, tools and equipment required to complete their work.
- Review engineering reports, job sheets and inspection documentation.
- Ensure work is completed to a high technical and professional standard.
- Manage planned servicing and preventative maintenance programmes.
- Coordinate breakdown response and ensure urgent customer requirements are dealt with promptly.
- Manage external suppliers and specialist contractors where required.
- Monitor parts, stock and equipment requirements.
- Identify recurring faults and opportunities to improve equipment reliability and customer service.
- Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with company health & safety procedures and relevant legislation.
- Manage engineer performance, training and development.
- Work closely with the management team to improve efficiency, engineer utilisation and customer satisfaction.
- Help develop and improve the company's service processes as the business grows.
About You
We are looking for someone who has a strong engineering background and the ability to lead and organise a busy service operation.
You will ideally have:
- Previous experience within the crane, lifting equipment, heavy plant, construction equipment or similar engineering industry.
- Experience managing or supervising engineers or a technical team.
- A strong understanding of mechanical, hydraulic and electrical systems.
- Experience of servicing, maintaining and repairing cranes or similar equipment.
- Excellent planning and organisational skills.
- The ability to prioritise competing demands in a busy environment.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- The confidence to deal with customers, engineers and suppliers.
- A practical and hands-on approach to problem solving.
- A good understanding of health & safety and engineering compliance.
- The ability to make decisions, take ownership and remain calm when things don't go to plan.
