We are pleased to offer an opportunity to join our Hughes Business team as a Part-Time Warehouse Operative at our Southend Hughes Business location.
This role supports the smooth running of the warehouse by helping with deliveries, loading vehicles, organising stock, completing stock transfers and supporting basic stock administration. It is a practical, hands-on role suited to someone reliable, organised and comfortable working safely in a busy warehouse environment.
You will work closely with branch management, Hughes Business colleagues and delivery teams to help ensure stock is accurate, vehicles are prepared on time, and the warehouse is kept clean, tidy and safe.
Hours: 20 hours per week, worked across 4 or 5 days as determined by business requirements.
What does the role include?
- Assisting with unloading supplier and delivery lorries, checking goods and placing stock in the correct location.
- Loading vehicles for delivery runs accurately and safely.
- Keeping warehouse stock organised, clearly identified and accessible.
- Completing weekly stock counts and reporting discrepancies promptly.
- Processing stock transfers between locations and ensuring movements are recorded accurately.
- Completing general stock administration including paperwork, records and audit support.
- Keeping the warehouse clean, tidy and safe, with clear walkways and well-maintained work areas.
- Following safe manual handling practices when moving, loading, unloading or storing stock.
- Occasionally assisting with delivery van duties, including loading, unloading and customer-facing delivery activity.
- Reporting stock, vehicle, safety or operational issues which may affect customer service.
What skills and experience are required?
- Reliable, punctual and able to work practically as part of a small team.
- Good attention to detail when checking stock, paperwork and warehouse records.
- Ability to work safely, follow instructions and use good manual handling practices.
- Organised approach, with the ability to keep stock areas tidy and easy to use.
- Flexible attitude to support changing business needs and delivery schedules.
- Professional manner when dealing with colleagues, customers, suppliers and visitors.
- Previous warehouse, stock control, delivery or logistics experience is helpful but not essential.
