Overview
A specialist SEND provision in Colne is recruiting an Autism Support Practitioner to join their team from September. The school supports pupils with high levels of autism and complex needs, following a personalised Early Years and Primary curriculum focused on communication, interaction, emotional development, sensory regulation and independence skills.
Working closely with teachers, therapists and families, the successful candidate will play a key role in helping pupils access learning and reach their individual potential within a highly supportive environment.
This is a full-time opportunity that has the potential to become a permanent role following a successful temporary period.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support pupils with autism and complex needs to access learning throughout the school day.
- Deliver structured interventions and learning activities linked to individual targets and EHCP outcomes.
- Support communication development using visual supports, PECS, symbols and communication aids.
- Assist with sensory regulation strategies and personalised support plans.
- Adapt learning activities to meet individual developmental and learning needs.
- Facilitate opportunities for communication, engagement and social interaction.
- Support pupils to develop independence, self-help and life skills.
- Monitor, record and evaluate progress against individual targets.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, parents and carers to ensure consistency across settings.
- Promote pupil wellbeing, confidence and active participation in all aspects of school life.
Pre-requisites:
- Experience supporting children or young people with autism and additional needs.
- Understanding of autism spectrum condition, sensory processing and communication differences.
- Knowledge of PECS, visual supports and alternative communication methods desirable.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Patient, nurturing and highly organised approach.
- Experience within SEND, education, childcare or care settings beneficial.
- Relevant qualifications in Education, SEND, Child Development or equivalent experience desirable.
Pay: £95.00-£110.00 per day
