About the Role
We are seeking a highly capable Interim Financial Accountant to provide robust financial control, disciplined month‑end execution, and reliable, detail‑driven accounting.
This role is focused on hands-on financial accounting, with responsibility for ensuring accuracy, completing reconciliations, and maintaining high standards of financial control and financial hygiene. It does not involve FP&A, strategy, or business partnering responsibilities. Success in the role requires strong cross-functional collaboration with teams such as Sales, Operations, and Customer Service to support accurate financial reporting and efficient business processes.
We need someone who takes genuine pride in a balance sheet that ties perfectly every month.
Key Responsibilities
- Daily and weekly bank reconciliations
- Full balance sheet reconciliations across all control accounts (monthly)
- Maintain clean, accurate, well-structured ledgers
- Prepare journals, accruals, prepayments, and fixed asset postings
- Own the month-end close process and timetable
- Produce draft monthly P&L and balance sheet
Controls & Financial Hygiene
- Investigate, resolve, and clear historical reconciliation discrepancies
- Strengthen processes and improve documentation standards
- Ensure every balance has backing schedules and a clear audit trail
- Promote a “books must tie” culture across the function
- Prepare audit‑ready working papers and schedules
Reporting & Compliance Support
- Assist the CFO in preparing the monthly management accounts pack
- Complete VAT returns
- Support year‑end processes and liaise with external accountants
- Provide ad hoc analysis as required
Experience
- 3–7+ years accounting experience
- Strong financial accounting and reconciliation capability
- Experience owning month‑end close
- Previous SME experience beneficial
Technical Skills
- Xero (essential)
- Excel — strong skills in pivots, lookups, and schedule building
