A Finance Assistant role in social housing is a chance to use your financial skills to make a real difference. Each day brings variety — from processing purchase ledger transactions and preparing multi‑department invoices to supporting tenants by posting rent payments and resolving financial queries with care. You’ll be a key point of contact for colleagues and customers, offering guidance on purchase orders, payments and benefits while ensuring every interaction is recorded accurately.
You’ll also help keep our financial operations running smoothly through diligent data entry, investigating discrepancies, and assisting departments with invoice matching. To succeed, you’ll bring strong attention to detail, confidence with IT systems like Excel, and a commitment to excellent customer service. Resilience and adaptability are essential in this fast‑paced, rewarding sector.
As a Finance Assistant, a typical day might include:

The processing of purchase ledger transactions in an accurate, timely and efficient manner, ensuring compliance with regulations

Preparation and processing of invoices for multi-department journal/import

The posting of all monies received for rent through housing benefit and direct debits to customer accounts in our systems

The reconciliation of supplier statements/accounts, investigate and resolve any discrepancies

Communicate with clients and vendors regarding financial queries, and address any urgent queries in a timely manner

First line of support for internal customers in relation to purchase order raising, GRN and matching to invoices

Review and resolve outstanding PO’s and goods received not yet invoiced

Support the finance team in financial data entry and maintenance of records

Being the first point of contact for payment and benefit enquiries, and ensuring accurate recording of conversations in our customer relationship management system

Any other duties, consistent with the above, that may be required from time to time
Some of the experience/skills we need to consider you:

Some knowledge of financial and management accounting

Evidence of a great customer service ethos, with experience of dealing with a wide range of customers, suppliers and other external agencies

Attention to detail and accuracy, and complete all tasks to a high standard

Experience of using IT systems including Microsoft Office, in particular Excel

An appreciation of the social housing sector

AAT qualified, or working towards would be ideal but not essential

An organised individual who is capable of planning and monitoring varied workloads, with the ability to work to deadlines

Comfortable working in a busy office environment
