Opulence Stoves is looking for an experienced builder, carpenter, joiner or multi-skilled tradesperson to join our installation team, working from Bury St Edmunds across East Anglia.
This is not a trainee or developing fitter position. We are looking for someone who already has the practical skills to take responsibility for fireplace construction, preparation and high-quality finishing work independently.
You will work alongside our lead installation engineer, taking ownership of the building and visible finishing elements of our installations – the part of the job our customers ultimately see every day.
The role
Your work will include:
- Fireplace knock-outs and structural openings
- Assessing and installing appropriate lintels
- Brickwork and blockwork
- Preparing and altering fireplace recesses
- Installing chambers and hearths
- Stone surrounds, mantels and beams
- Carpentry, framing and boxing
- Cutting and fitting specified fire-resistant cladding
- Plastering and high-quality making good
- Accurate measuring and setting out
- Protecting customers' homes and maintaining clean, safe working areas
- Delivering a premium domestic finish without continuous supervision
These are core parts of the position and we expect the successful applicant to be capable of completing much of this work independently from the outset.
Who we're looking for

You don't need to come from the stove industry. Existing building and finishing ability is more important.

Safety, workmanship and customer care are particularly important because much of our work takes place inside occupied homes and becomes a permanent focal point within the customer's property.
Salary & benefits
Employed: £33,000–£38,000 per year, depending on the breadth and quality of your existing trade skills.
- £33,000–£35,000 – strong, independently useful building or finishing capability
- £35,000–£38,000 – broad independent capability across openings, lintels, chambers, hearths, stonework, carpentry, plastering and making good
- 28 days' paid holiday including bank holidays

A genuine self-employed subcontract arrangement may also be considered at £180–£220 per day, depending on capability, independence, productivity and responsibility for the finished work.
Progression
There is genuine scope for the right person to develop.
Progression could take you from independent fireplace construction and premium finishing into a senior building and finishing specialist, with responsibility for more complex preparation, finished quality and standards.
For someone with the aptitude and interest, there may also be opportunities to develop into wider stove-installation work over time, subject to the appropriate training and qualifications.
Pay: £33,000.00-£38,000.00 per year
