Operations & Transport Manager

Role Purpose
Responsible for leading and coordinating daily operational activity across production, warehousing, delivery and order fulfilment. Ensures the branch operates safely, efficiently and consistently while maintaining high standards of quality, accuracy and customer satisfaction. You will be a visible hands on manager, with excellent communication skills.
What You’ll Be Doing
Key Responsibilities
Operations Management
- Oversee daily warehouse and delivery activity.
- Ensure work is completed safely, efficiently and on schedule.
- Maintain consistent coordination between operation& sales.
Production Planning
- Plan workloads, staffing and material requirements in the mill
- Ensure customer deadlines are met and delays avoided.
- Adjust plans proactively based on demand and resource availability.
Team Leadership
- Lead supervisor and transport frontline teams.
- Provide coaching, support and performance management.
- Promote teamwork, accountability and professional standards.
Stock & Materials Control
- Maintain correct stock levels for timber and sheets stocktake of all Main yard & Sheds.
- Ensure accurate stock records and efficient material flow.
Quality Assurance
- Ensure finished products meet company specifications and customer requirements.
- Address quality issues promptly and implement corrective actions.
Transport Management
- Oversee fleet operations for the branch.
- Manage drivers and maintain vehicle safety and efficiency.
- Oversee route planning, maintenance scheduling and regulatory obligations.
Delivery Management
- Work with the transport planner, drivers and sales teams to organise delivery schedules.
- Resolve logistical issues and support timely, accurate deliveries.
Process Improvement
- Review procedures and identify opportunities to reduce waste in timber & sheets
- Improve productivity, workflow and interdepartmental communication.
- Implement changes that strengthen operational efficiency.
Health & Safety
- Promote safe working practices at all times.
- Ensure compliance with company procedures and workplace regulations.
- Make sure that all daily checks in plant & machinery are completed and recorded.
