Role Overview
We are seeking a Food Education Coach to deliver engaging, face-to-face food skills sessions to small groups. Your sessions will cover practical cooking skills, food hygiene, nutrition, meal planning, budgeting, and safe food preparation in a supportive and inclusive environment.
You will create a welcoming, flexible learning experience, adapting your approach to meet the needs of the participants with varying abilities, confidence levels, and language skills. This is a hands-on, relationship-focused role, ideal for someone who is patient, practical, and passionate about making a lasting impact.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver practical food skills sessions to small groups (1–10 participants) across RBWH sites.
- Teach participants how to prepare healthy, nutritious, and affordable meals using accessible ingredients.
- Support learners to develop confidence in cooking, food safety, hygiene, kitchen organisation, and meal planning.
- Deliver sessions covering topics such as nutrition, budgeting, reducing food waste, shopping on a budget, and batch cooking.
- Adapt existing lesson plans and develop new learning resources to meet participant needs.
- Provide one-to-one or small group coaching for participants requiring additional support.
- Work inclusively with participants who may have limited English proficiency, using visual resources, demonstrations, and translation support where appropriate.
- Maintain a safe and hygienic learning environment, ensuring compliance with food safety procedures.
- Maintain attendance records, session notes, and participant feedback.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of RBWH's programme offering.
- Organise or participate in community food events, healthy eating workshops, and outreach activities to promote food confidence and healthy living.
- Build positive relationships with participants, encouraging progression into volunteering, training, or employment opportunities.
Essential Criteria· Practical cooking skills with a good understanding of nutrition, food hygiene, and healthy eating.· Experience delivering food skills training, cooking workshops, or practical coaching in a community, education, hospitality, or support setting.· Food Hygiene Certificate (Level 2) or willingness to obtain one.· Ability to work with complete beginners through to more confident learners.· Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.· Patience, empathy, and an inclusive approach to teaching and support.· Ability to adapt sessions flexibly to meet diverse participants needs.· Commitment to the mission, values, and vision of RBWH.· Strong organisational skills and the ability to maintain a safe kitchen learning environment.Desirable Criteria
- Level 3 Food Hygiene qualification (Or willingness to work towards one).
- Teaching, training, or coaching qualification (or willingness to work towards one).
- Experience working with individuals facing barriers to employment, including refugees, ex-offenders, and long term unemployed.
- Experience within the catering, hospitality, or community food sector.
Salary and Benefits
- £24,000–£27,000 per annum (depending on experience. Negotiable).
