Trade Counter Sales Team Leader (Full-Time)
Location: Brighouse / Huddersfield Area
We are a well-established business based in the Brighouse/Huddersfield area and are looking for a reliable, hardworking, and experienced Trade Counter Sales Team Leader to join our busy, fast-paced team.
This is a key role within the business, responsible for leading the front-of-store operation while delivering outstanding customer service. The successful candidate will have previous experience in a trade counter or counter sales environment and be confident dealing with both trade customers and the general public.
You will be responsible for serving customers at the trade counter and over the phone, preparing quotations, advising customers on the correct selection and safe use of tools and fixings, maintaining stock levels, supervising the counter team, and ensuring the trade counter and shop are clean, organised, safe, and well presented at all times.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the trade counter team and supervise two members of staff, ensuring excellent customer service and efficient day-to-day operations.
- Take responsibility for the day-to-day Health & Safety of the trade counter and shop, ensuring procedures are followed, risks are identified, and a safe working environment is maintained.
- Serve customers at the trade counter, providing knowledgeable advice and a professional service.
- Handle incoming telephone enquiries and process sales orders.
- Prepare accurate customer quotations.
- Advise customers on the correct selection, application, and safe use of tools, fixings, power tools, and associated products.
- Maintain a clean, tidy, and well-organised trade counter and shop area.
- Monitor, replenish, and manage shop stock.
- Maintain accurate stock records and carry out regular stock checks.
- Ensure company Health & Safety policies are followed and promote safe working practices throughout the store.
Skills & Experience Required
Essential
- Previous experience in a trade counter, counter sales, or similar customer-facing trade environment.
- Previous supervisory or team leader experience.
- A good understanding of workplace Health & Safety, with the ability to take responsibility for maintaining Health & Safety standards within the store.
- Experience using power tools, with a sound understanding of their application and safe operation.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Good IT skills, including experience using computerised stock control or sales systems.
- Excellent attention to detail, particularly in relation to stock management.
- Reliable, dependable, and punctual.
- Physically fit, as the role involves regular manual handling and heavy lifting.
Desirable
- Experience within the welding and fabrication industry would be a distinct advantage.
- Engineering or mechanical knowledge.
- Ability to identify and troubleshoot minor equipment issues.
Working Hours
- Full-time, permanent position.
- Monday to Friday 7.30am to 5pm , plus alternate Saturday mornings (7.30 until 12:00 pm).
- Early finish alternate Fridays at 2pm, subject to workload
