Overview
Horton Cross Nursing Home is looking for a Temporary Activities Assistant to join our friendly and dedicated team.
This is an important role within our Activities team, supporting our residents to enjoy a fulfilling and meaningful lifestyle. You will help to deliver a varied programme of activities that reflects the individual interests, abilities, needs and wishes of our residents.
The position is offered on a temporary basis to cover the long-term absence of our permanent Activities Assistant. We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic, caring and creative, with a genuine interest in enhancing the wellbeing and quality of life of older people.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate engaging activities tailored to residents’ interests and abilities, including arts and crafts, games, music sessions, baking and gardening.
- Foster a warm and inclusive atmosphere that encourages participation and social connection among residents
- Collaborate with care staff to understand individual needs of residents to ensure activities are appropriate and beneficial
- Maintain activity schedules and record resident participation to monitor engagement levels
- Support residents during activities, providing assistance as needed to ensure safety and enjoyment
- Communicate effectively with residents, families, and team members to gather feedback and improve program offerings
- Assist with the preparation of activity materials in advance and ensure materials are maintained in a safe, organised manner
- Assist residents at meal times
Skills
- Prior experience in care or nursing home settings is highly preferred
- Knowledge of senior care practices, including dementia care and Alzheimer’s care techniques
- Strong communication skills to connect effectively with residents of diverse backgrounds and cognitive abilities
- Passion for caregiving with a genuine interest in enhancing quality of life for seniors
- Ability to lead group activities with enthusiasm while maintaining safety standards
- Creative problem-solving skills to adapt activities for residents with varying needs
- Reliable team player committed to fostering a positive community environment
