We are a leading civil engineering organisation delivering safe, sustainable, and efficient transport solutions across the UK.
We're looking to grow our estimating capability within our Rail business and would love to hear from experienced Estimators at all levels. Whether you're currently an Intermediate Estimator ready for the next step, a Senior Estimator seeking a new challenge, or a Managing Estimator looking for a broader opportunity, we'd be keen to speak with you.
We are particularly interested in people with rail experience, and whilst railway electrification experience would be advantageous, it is by no means essential.
This is a hybrid role, and you can be based anywhere in the UK, with occasional travel to our Octavius hubs in London, Reigate, Manchester, Leeds, Swindon and Bristol.
As part of our Pre-Delivery Rail team, you'll play a key role in developing robust and commercially sound estimates that help secure and shape major rail infrastructure projects across the UK. You'll work closely with project, engineering, commercial and bid teams to develop cost plans, identify risks and opportunities, and support winning tender submissions.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Producing accurate cost estimates and cost plans for rail infrastructure projects.
- Developing estimates from first principles and assessing project risks and opportunities.
- Working closely with operational, engineering and commercial teams to develop delivery strategies.
- Supporting tender submissions, adjudications and bid presentations.
- Contributing to methodologies and commercial strategies that support successful project outcomes.
- Building strong relationships with clients, suppliers and internal stakeholders.
- Helping drive continuous improvement and sharing lessons learned across bids and projects.
For those interested in progressing their career, this role offers an excellent opportunity to develop towards Managing Estimator level within a growing and supportive team.
We offer a competitive rewards package, including a Company Car scheme, Private Healthcare, Pension, Life Assurance cover, 25 days Annual Leave (and a day off for your birthday). You'll also have access to Hybrid working where possible, an enhanced Paternity & Maternity package and the opportunity to develop yourself personally and professionally.
You're a commercially aware estimator who enjoys working collaboratively to solve problems and develop winning solutions. You build strong relationships, communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders and take pride in delivering accurate, high-quality work.
You'll be someone who:
- Has a strong attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
- Is proactive, organised and comfortable working to deadlines.
- Enjoys analysing risks, opportunities and project constraints.
- Can challenge constructively and contribute to the development of innovative solutions.
- Builds credibility and trust with colleagues, clients and supply chain partners.
- Shares our values and is committed to continuous improvement.
- Estimating experience within the rail sector or wider infrastructure environment.
- Experience preparing estimates from first principles.
- An understanding of construction methods, project delivery and commercial considerations.
- Knowledge of cost planning, risk management and tender processes.
- Experience using estimating software and associated IT systems.
- The ability to interpret technical information and translate it into robust cost estimates.
- HNC, HND, Degree qualification or equivalent industry experience.
A background in railway electrification would be advantageous but is not essential.
We would also welcome applications from Quantity Surveyors who are interested in transitioning into estimating and can demonstrate a strong understanding of infrastructure projects, cost management and commercial principles.
