Ye Olde Pump House is looking for an experienced Chef or Cook to join our fast paced, friendly kitchen team.
We are a busy traditional pub in Hastings Old Town serving popular pub food, including burgers, fish and chips, pies, and Sunday roasts.
We’re looking for a practical, reliable cook who enjoys being part of a team and can work at a good pace during busy services.
The role
Your responsibilities will include:
- Preparing, cooking and presenting meals from our established menu
- Working across the grill, fryers, ovens and other kitchen stations
- Managing several food orders during busy periods
- Completing food preparation and restocking your section
- Following our recipes, portion sizes and presentation standards
- Maintaining good food hygiene and allergen procedures
- Checking temperatures and completing kitchen records
- Rotating stock and assisting with deliveries
- Keeping the kitchen clean and organised
- Communicating with and supporting the rest of the team
About you
We would like to hear from you if you:
- Have recent experience cooking in a commercial kitchen
- Can work calmly and efficiently during a busy service
- Are comfortable cooking different parts of several meals simultaneously
- Are reliable, punctual and organised
- Take pride in the quality and presentation of your food
- Are willing to follow established recipes and kitchen procedures
- Notice what needs doing and help the team without always being asked
- Can work evenings and weekends
- Can reliably travel to Hastings Old Town
Previous pub-kitchen experience would be helpful but is not essential. Experience in a busy café, restaurant, breakfast kitchen, holiday park or similar commercial kitchen will also be considered.
Pay and hours
- £13.21–£14.71 per hour
- Guaranteed contracted hours
- Full-time hours available

- Three-month probationary period

The higher end of the pay range is available to someone who demonstrates that they can confidently manage busy services, work independently across the required kitchen stations and consistently maintain our food and hygiene standards.
