We are looking for an experienced and highly organised HR and Compliance Manager to join our care home in SW16.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the full HR function, maintaining compliant staff records and ensuring that all recruitment, employment and workforce documentation is accurate, complete and audit-ready.
This is a hands-on role with a strong focus on HR administration, safer recruitment, employee relations, staff files, training compliance and CQC requirements.
Applicants must have at least three years’ relevant HR experience and previous experience working within a care home, nursing home, healthcare or adult social care setting.
Main Responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day HR function within the care home.
- Maintain complete, accurate and audit-ready staff personnel files.
- Complete and monitor right-to-work checks, DBS checks, references and employment history checks.
- Ensure all recruitment documentation meets safer recruitment and CQC requirements.
- Prepare offer letters, employment contracts, variation letters and other HR documentation.
- Manage recruitment, onboarding, induction and probation processes.
- Monitor staff supervisions, appraisals, return-to-work meetings and probation reviews.
- Maintain accurate records of sickness, absence, annual leave and staff changes.
- Support managers with disciplinary, grievance, capability and performance matters.
- Provide practical HR advice to managers and senior staff.
- Monitor mandatory training and ensure staff training records remain up to date.
- Manage online training systems, HR systems, rota systems and electronic staff files.
- Identify missing, incomplete or expired staff documentation and follow up promptly.
- Prepare HR and compliance evidence for CQC inspections, internal audits and commissioner reviews.
- Monitor visa expiry dates, right-to-work status and sponsorship-related documentation where applicable.
- Support workforce planning, recruitment campaigns and staff retention.
- Ensure HR records comply with data protection and confidentiality requirements.
- Maintain clear HR trackers, compliance reports and action plans.
- Work closely with the Registered Manager and senior management team.
Essential Experience and Skills
- Minimum of three years’ HR experience, preferably at HR Manager, Senior HR Officer or HR Adviser level.
- Minimum of three years’ relevant experience within a care home, nursing home, healthcare or adult social care setting.
- Strong knowledge of CQC workforce compliance requirements.
- Excellent knowledge of safer recruitment procedures.
- Experience completing right-to-work checks, DBS checks, references and employment history verification.
- Experience managing disciplinary, grievance, sickness, absence, capability and performance matters.
- Experience maintaining audit-ready staff files and compliance records.
- Strong knowledge of UK employment practices and HR procedures.
- Excellent attention to detail and record-keeping skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Confident using HR, training, rota and staff-record management systems.
- Able to manage a busy workload, prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
- Able to work independently and take ownership of the HR function.
Desirable
- CIPD qualification or equivalent HR qualification.
- Experience supporting CQC inspections or compliance audits.
- Knowledge of sponsor licence and Skilled Worker compliance.
- Experience working within a large care home or nursing home.
- Previous experience managing recruitment and staff training systems.
