Job Summary
Tarka Van Hire is looking for two reliable, hands-on Vehicle Rental Operatives to join our Tavistock branch. These are part-time roles on 20-hour contracts, with the opportunity to work additional hours when required.
About Tarka Van Hire:
Our expansion across the South West is creating incredible opportunities for customers and staff alike. If you are looking to join a passionate and forward-thinking company, to help continue our growth and seek opportunities for career progression, this could be the role for you.
We are a leading provider of high-quality vans, cars and minibuses to retail, business and corporate clients. We are committed to providing our customers with exceptional service and ensuring they have a positive rental experience.
About the Role:
Our Tavistock branch is growing, and we need more people on the ground to keep our fleet moving and our customers looked after. Working alongside our existing branch team, you'll be responsible for getting vehicles ready to the highest standard, delivering and collecting them from customers across the area, and handling handovers and check-ins face to face.
This is an active, varied role — no two days are the same. You'll be out on the road, working with vehicles, and dealing directly with customers, so we're looking for people who take pride in their work and represent the company well.
Please note: early morning starts are a regular part of this role, and weekend work is required on a rota basis.
Key Responsibilities:
- Preparing vehicles for hire — cleaning inside and out, checking fuel, oil, tyres and general condition, and ensuring every vehicle goes out to the highest standard
- Delivering vehicles to customers and collecting them at the end of hire, across Tavistock and the surrounding area
- Carrying out vehicle handovers — walking customers through the vehicle, completing condition checks and paperwork, and answering any questions
- Checking vehicles back in at the end of hire, including damage inspections and recording vehicle condition
- Building great relationships with our customers — being friendly, professional and helpful at every touchpoint
- Reporting any vehicle faults, damage or issues promptly to the branch team
- Supporting the wider team with general branch duties as required
What We're Looking For:
- A full UK driving licence (required) — you'll be driving a variety of vehicles daily, from cars to large vans. A clean licence and a minibus (D1) entitlement would be an added benefit
- Confidence driving larger vehicles, or willingness to build up to it
- A genuine eye for detail — vehicle presentation and accurate condition checks matter in this role
- Strong customer service skills and a professional, friendly manner
- Reliability and punctuality, particularly for early morning starts
- Flexibility to work weekends on a rota basis and pick up additional hours when needed
- The ability to work well both independently and as part of a team
Hours & Contract:
- Part-time: 20 hours per week (contracted), with additional hours available when required
- Early morning starts required
- Weekend work on a rota basis
- Two positions available
Additional Information:
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the positions are filled.
We are an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from all sections of the community.
Please note: Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for interview.
