About Us
Welfare Healthcare (UK) Ltd is a growing independent pharmacy group operating community pharmacies across the UK under brands including The CEYX Pharmacy.
Alongside our pharmacy operations, we are investing significantly in developing our own digital platforms to improve how customers and patients access our services and how our teams work internally.
We are now looking for a Web & Application Developer to join us and take an important role in the design, development and continued improvement of our digital platforms.
This is an opportunity to work directly with the business on real projects from concept through to implementation, rather than simply maintaining an established corporate system.
The Role
Your initial priority will be the continued development and improvement of The CEYX Pharmacy website and its associated web applications.
You will work closely with management to understand what we want to achieve commercially and operationally, and translate those requirements into practical, well-designed digital experiences.
Projects will include customer-facing applications as well as internal web-based systems.
Initial areas of development are expected to include:
- Development and continuous improvement of The CEYX Pharmacy website
- Design and development of responsive web applications
- Online pharmacy service and appointment booking journeys
- Customer and patient account areas
- Online forms, questionnaires and service interfaces
- E-commerce and online ordering experiences
- Patient-facing portals and mobile-friendly/PWA experiences
- Internal employee portal, dashboards and workflow interfaces
- Membership and customer engagement features
- Integration of appropriate third-party services into our web platforms
- Ongoing optimisation of usability, accessibility and performance
Our longer-term digital roadmap is extensive, and the successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to the continued development of our digital ecosystem as the business grows.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop and maintain high-quality websites and web applications
- Translate business requirements into practical digital solutions and user journeys
- Create intuitive, responsive and user-friendly interfaces
- Develop new functionality across customer-facing and internal web applications
- Improve existing website functionality, structure and performance
- Design effective workflows for online pharmacy services and internal systems
- Work with APIs and third-party platforms where required to deliver integrated user experiences
- Test, troubleshoot and resolve issues across our web applications
- Maintain appropriate technical documentation
- Ensure websites and applications are reliable, secure and maintainable
- Recommend improvements to our digital platforms based on user and business requirements
- Take ownership of projects from initial discussion and design through to implementation and ongoing improvement
About You
We are looking for someone who combines strong technical ability with the ability to understand how people actually use digital products.
You should be comfortable taking a business requirement or idea, understanding what needs to be achieved and turning it into a working web-based solution.
You will ideally have:
- A degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Web Development or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience
- Professional or demonstrable experience developing websites and web applications
- Strong front-end web development skills
- Experience with modern web development frameworks and technologies
- Understanding of responsive web and application design
- Good understanding of UI/UX principles and user journeys
- Experience working with databases, APIs and third-party integrations
- Experience developing forms, dashboards, customer portals or similar web applications
- Understanding of testing, debugging, version control and deployment
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of projects
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical colleagues
Experience with e-commerce, booking platforms, healthcare applications, customer portals, PWAs or internal business systems would be advantageous but is not essential.
What We Are Looking For
This role would particularly suit someone who wants more ownership than may be available in a large development team.
You will be working closely with the people who run the business, so we are looking for someone who is comfortable discussing ideas, challenging them where appropriate and proposing practical solutions rather than simply working from a fixed list of technical instructions.
As our digital platforms develop, there will be significant opportunity for the successful candidate to broaden their responsibilities and take greater ownership of the company's technology and digital systems.
What We Offer
- Permanent, full-time position
- 37.5 hours per week
- Opportunity to take ownership of meaningful live projects
- Direct involvement in shaping the company's digital platforms
- Exposure to customer-facing, e-commerce, healthcare and internal business applications
- Long-term opportunity for professional development as our digital capabilities expand
- Supportive working environment within a growing independent healthcare business
Application
Please apply with your CV.
Where available, we would also be interested in seeing examples of websites, applications, portfolios, GitHub repositories or other relevant projects that demonstrate your work.
Shortlisted applicants may be invited to discuss previous projects and complete a small practical assessment relevant to the type of work involved in the role.
