Overview:
Reporting directly to the Senior Claims Supervisor, the Liability Claims Handler is responsible for the investigation, validation, negotiation and settlement of Third-Party Property Damage (TPPD) claims arising under combined liability insurance policies.
Whilst the primary focus of the role is the handling of Third-Party Property Damage claims, the successful candidate will also manage a small allocation of lower-value Personal Injury claims. This will include minor injury and straightforward bodily injury matters, requiring the handler to assess medical evidence, evaluate quantum, consider causation and negotiate settlements in line with insurer philosophy and prevailing claims protocols. An understanding of personal injury claims handling principles is therefore highly desirable and will support effective management of the wider liability portfolio.
Responsibilities:
- Manage a portfolio of Third-Party Liability claims from first notification through to settlement and closure.
- Manage a small portfolio of low-value Personal Injury claims, including liability assessment, review of medical evidence, reserve management and claims settlement.
- Review incident circumstances and determine liability based on available evidence, legal precedent and insurer strategy.
- Analyse photographs, witness statements, engineering reports, repair estimates, invoices and other supporting documentation.
- Conduct detailed liability investigations and identify potential fraud indicators, policy breaches or coverage concerns.
- Apply a sound understanding of negligence law, duty of care, causation and contributory negligence principles when assessing claims.
- Assess injury claims in accordance with relevant legislation, claims protocols and insurer handling guidelines.
- Negotiate injury settlements with claimants, representatives and third-party insurers to achieve fair and commercially sound outcomes.
- Ensure all reserves are reviewed regularly and maintained at accurate levels in accordance with claims handling guidelines.
- Proactively manage claim lifecycles to minimise unnecessary delays and meet agreed service standards.
- Escalate technically complex, high-value or litigated claims where required.
- Ensure compliance with insurer authorities, delegated claims handling agreements and internal governance requirements.
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive file notes and claim documentation on the Pro-Claim system.
Experience:
- Cert CII qualification desirable with progress towards Dip CII qualification advantageous.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience handling Third Party Property Damage claims within an insurer, MGA, broker or third-party administrator environment.
- Previous experience handling Personal Injury claims is highly desirable. Working knowledge of bodily injury claims, medical reporting, causation principles and quantum assessment would be advantageous.
