Café Supervisor, part time, 20 to 30 hours
Yorks Café, 15 High Street, Stratford-upon-Avon
Hospitality is not something we do at Yorks. It is the reason the place exists. Speciality coffee is the soul of it, served alongside globally inspired brunch, all day, in a room built for people to stay in. The rest is detail: which single origin is on, what came out of the kitchen this week, who is behind the bar. The point is that somebody walks out of here having had a better morning than the one they walked in with.
We are looking for someone to lead shifts.
What the job actually is
You are the café when you are on. Not the person who reports on the shift afterwards, the person who runs it. You open or you close. You set the pace when the queue reaches the door and you hold the standard when the room is empty, which is harder. You read what is happening, move people where they are needed, and make the call yourself.
Day to day:
- Open and close, run storewalks and checklists, and delegate properly
- Set the standard on the floor, because the team take theirs from you
- Look after customers, and put things right quickly when they go wrong
- Coach people on the job, and give feedback that is honest and useful
- Watch portioning, waste and stock
- Keep the food safety and hygiene records done and the cleaning on track
- Tell the Café Manager and Assistant Café Manager how shifts went
The coffee
We take the coffee seriously. We do not take ourselves seriously, and there is a difference. Dialling in properly, tasting what changed and knowing why, explaining a coffee to somebody without turning it into a lecture. If you already care about that, there is room here for it. If you do not know it yet and want to, we will teach you. Curiosity beats a CV.
What you need
- Confidence running a shift and setting the standard
- Reliable, organised, and calm when it is busy
- A clear communicator who gets the best out of people
- Genuine care about food safety, hygiene and standards
- The right to work in the UK
Useful, not essential:
- Previous supervisor or team leader experience
- Level 2 Food Safety, or first aid, already held
- Speciality coffee experience
What you get
- £13.25 an hour, plus a fair share of tips through our tronc (works out at an average of an extra £1.15/hour)
- A guaranteed minimum of 20 hours a week, with around 35 the aim
- The training the role needs, arranged and paid for by us, starting with Level 2 Food Safety and allergen awareness
- Two hot drinks on shift, three if you are on for six hours or more

Hours
20 to 35 hours a week across a rota that includes weekends, with earlier or later starts depending on the week. We agree patterns with you rather than dropping them on you. No late nights.
Everyone welcome
We hire and promote on merit, and we mean everyone. If a reasonable adjustment would help you, applying or doing the job, tell us and we will sort it. You do not need to explain why.
