Nurture Room Tutor (SEMH Provision)
Location: TLE Independent School , Scunthorpe
Contract: Full‑time
Start Date: September 2026 (or sooner)

About Us
We are a small, specialist SEMH school providing a highly supportive, trauma‑informed environment for pupils with complex social, emotional and mental health needs. Our nurture room is a key part of our provision, offering a calm, structured, relationship‑based space for pupils who require additional support to access learning.
The Role
We are seeking a committed and skilled Nurture Room Tutor to lead learning within our nurture provision. The successful candidate will deliver high‑quality, personalised teaching for pupils working significantly below age‑related expectations, many of whom present with high levels of anxiety, academic refusal, and SEND‑related barriers.
You will work closely with the SENCO, DSL, and wider staff team to provide a safe, predictable environment where pupils can rebuild confidence, develop core skills, and make meaningful progress.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging, differentiated lessons in English, Maths and wider curriculum areas
- Provide a highly nurturing, trauma‑informed learning environment
- Support pupils with emotional regulation, relationship building and readiness to learn
- Implement personalised plans, SEMH strategies and targeted interventions
- Track progress and contribute to reviews, EHCP processes and parent communication
- Work collaboratively with staff to ensure consistent routines and expectations
- Model positive relationships and maintain high safeguarding standards
Essential Requirements
- Minimum Level 4 qualification in an education‑related field
- Experience working with SEND pupils, ideally within SEMH or alternative provision
- Strong understanding of trauma‑informed practice and behaviour as communication
- Ability to build safe, trusting relationships with pupils who may be dysregulated or anxious
- Full UK driving licence
- Ability to obtain business car insurance for transporting pupils or travelling between sites
- Confidence delivering learning to pupils working significantly below age‑related expectations
- Excellent communication, resilience and a calm, consistent approach
Desirable
- Experience in a nurture‑based or therapeutic education setting
- Knowledge of Functional Skills or KS2/KS3 intervention curricula
- Training in Team Teach or other de‑escalation approaches
