We deliver a broad range of refurbishment, fit-out, planned maintenance and customer care projects for developers, housing associations, commercial organisations and public sector clients throughout the South West. As our business continues to grow, we're looking to appoint an Estimating & Commercial Manager to become a key member of our management team. This is a diverse role that combines estimating, client relationship management, business development, procurement and commercial support for our live projects.

About the Role
Reporting directly to the Directors and working closely with our Operations Manager, you'll play a pivotal role in both winning new work and supporting the successful delivery of projects.
You'll be involved from the moment an enquiry arrives, through estimating and tendering, procurement, client liaison and commercial support, right through to helping maximise client satisfaction and repeat business.
This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys variety, takes ownership and thrives in a fast-paced environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesEstimating & Tendering
- Reviewing drawings, specifications and tender documentation.
- Preparing accurate estimates and quotations.
- Carrying out take-offs and pricing exercises.
- Obtaining and evaluating supplier and subcontractor quotations.
- Preparing professional tender submissions.
- Identifying value engineering opportunities.
- Following up quotations and negotiating projects.
Commercial Support
- Procuring materials and managing supplier relationships.
- Supporting the commercial management of live projects.
- Assisting with valuations, variations and final accounts.
- Monitoring project costs and profitability.
- Supporting our Operations Manager to ensure projects are commercially successful.
- Assisting with programming and resource planning where required.
Business Development & Client Management
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with existing clients.
- Identifying and developing new business opportunities.
- Following up enquiries and quotations.
- Meeting clients, consultants and industry professionals.
- Helping secure repeat business and long-term partnerships.
- Supporting framework applications and strategic growth initiatives.
- Representing Murphy Pierce Projects professionally at meetings and networking events.
About You
We're looking for someone with ambition, commercial awareness and a proactive attitude.
You may currently be working as an:
- Estimator
- Quantity Surveyor
- Commercial Manager
- Contracts Surveyor
- Project Surveyor
- Pre-Construction Manager
- Business Development Manager within construction
- Project Manager with strong estimating experience
Experience within refurbishment, fit-out, planned maintenance, customer care or general construction would be highly advantageous.

Essential Requirements
- Experience within the construction industry.
- Estimating and/or commercial experience.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
Desirable
- Quantity Surveying or Construction-related qualification.
- Experience using estimating software.
- Knowledge of JCT contracts.
- Experience working for a Principal Contractor or maintenance contractor
- Existing relationships within the South West construction industry.
