As our business continues to grow, we are looking for a Finance Assistant to join our finance team and play a key role in supporting the smooth and efficient running of our financial operations.
The Role
This is a varied and hands-on finance role that will support both day-to-day accounting activities and wider finance team objectives.
You will take ownership of key processes including sales ledger management, direct debit collections, cash reconciliation and hire fleet accounting, whilst supporting month-end activities and maintaining accurate financial records.
The successful candidate will be organised, detail-focused and confident managing multiple priorities while working collaboratively with colleagues across the business.
Key Responsibilities
Sales Ledger Management
- Maintain and oversee the sales ledger
- Import customer invoices accurately and in a timely manner
- Allocate customer receipts and investigate any discrepancies
- Perform customer credit checks and monitor account limits
- Issue customer statements and support debt collection activities where required
Cash Management & Banking
- Process and reconcile daily bank transactions
- Ensure receipts are accurately allocated and posted
- Monitor cash balances across company accounts
- Transfer surplus funds into deposit accounts where appropriate
- Support effective cash flow management through accurate reporting
Direct Debit Administration
- Own and manage the company's Direct Debit process
- Ensure collections are processed accurately and on time
- Resolve Direct Debit queries efficiently
- Support initiatives to increase customer adoption of Direct Debit payments
Hire Fleet Accounting
- Produce and reconcile weekly hire reports
- Reconcile the hire fleet asset register on a monthly basis
- Process depreciation journals relating to hire fleet assets
- Support reporting and analysis relating to fleet utilisation and asset values
Month-End & Financial Control
- Perform balance sheet reconciliations on key control accounts
- Process journals to support month-end reporting accuracy
- Reconcile financial records and investigate variances where required
- Support the production of accurate management information
Purchase Ledger & Supplier Support
- Process supplier invoices accurately and efficiently
- Perform supplier statement reconciliations
- Resolve supplier account queries promptly
Administration & Compliance
- Manage the finance/accounts inbox
- Respond professionally to customer and supplier enquiries
- Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation
- Ensure compliance with company procedures and quality standards, including ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 requirements
- Support wider group finance activities as required
About You
We are looking for someone who enjoys working with numbers, takes pride in accuracy and is committed to delivering a high standard of work.
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience in a similar Accounts Assistant, Finance Assistant or Accounts Administrator role
- Good understanding of sales ledger and purchase ledger processes
- Experience reconciling bank accounts and balance sheet accounts
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
- Confident using Microsoft Excel and finance systems
- Ability to manage workload effectively and meet deadlines
- Professional communication skills when dealing with customers, suppliers and colleagues
Desirable
- Experience of Direct Debit administration
- Experience working with fixed asset registers and depreciation journals
- Experience within a hire, rental, construction or asset-based business
- AAT qualification or currently studying towards AAT
