Position: Highways Operative
Location: Shearlegs Road Depot, NE8 3EN
Start Date: ASAP
Contract Duration: 4+ Months
Working Hours: 37 hours per week
Pay Rate: PAYE: £ 15.31 per hour
Job Responsibilities
- Carry out highways maintenance and operational duties in line with council standards
- Support general highways, facilities management, and building services activities
- Undertake manual work including repairs, maintenance, and site-based tasks
- Operate tools, equipment, and machinery safely when required
- Follow health and safety procedures and report any hazards or issues
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment
- Work effectively as part of a team to complete assigned tasks
- Follow instructions from supervisors and complete work to the required standard
Requirements
Must-Have Requirements
- Previous experience in highways, maintenance, construction, or a similar operational role
- Ability to carry out physical outdoor work in various conditions
- Understanding of health and safety requirements
- Ability to work as part of a team and follow instructions
- Valid right to work in the UK
- Required licences, qualifications, or registrations (where legally required) must be provided and verified
- Successful completion of required compliance checks, including identity verification, employment references, and relevant health and safety checks
Nice-to-Have Requirements
- Experience working for a local authority or public sector organisation
- Relevant highways, construction, or maintenance qualifications
- Experience operating relevant tools, equipment, or machinery
- Knowledge of highways maintenance procedures and standards
