Job Title: Tiler
Location: Wigan (Dicconson Terrace, WN1 2AD)
Job Type: Full-time, Self-Employed Contractor (Fixed-Term from 24th August 2026 to 30th October 2026)
About Us:
DBR Builders (NW) Ltd is a property development company specializing in the new build and conversion of commercial buildings into residential blocks of flats. We manage a varied portfolio, including blocks of apartments. Our reputation is built on delivering exceptional craftsmanship and outstanding service within the property development sector.
Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and productive Tiler for a substantial, well-organised labour-only package at our Dicconson Terrace development in Wigan. The works comprise approximately 800 m² of repetitive wall and floor tiling across 31 new bathrooms, to be completed between 24th August 2026 and 30th October 2026. This is a continuous multi-unit programme designed to allow an experienced tiler to maintain strong and consistent daily output.
Contract scale: 31 new bathrooms and approximately 800 m² of wall and floor tiling over an 11-week programme.
Site organisation: Bathrooms will be released in sequence. Each work area will be clean, empty and ready for tiling, with no occupants and minimal interruption from other trades. All plumbing will already be installed, and the bath will be fitted by others.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Check the plasterboarded walls and prepared floor areas before starting, and report any unsuitable backgrounds to the Site Manager immediately.
- Install HardieBacker board to the new OSB floors where required, using the approved fixing method and materials supplied by DBR Builders (NW) Ltd.
- Install standard bathroom wall and floor tiles in accordance with the approved drawings and setting-out requirements. The principal tile sizes are 600 x 600 mm and 600 x 300 mm.
- Accurately set out, measure and cut tiles around the bath, corners, service penetrations and other standard bathroom details, using appropriate dust-control and wet-cutting methods.
- Construct and install the timber bath-panel frame, cut and fix plywood, and tile the completed bath panel, including any agreed access panel detail.
- Grout, seal, finish and clean all tiled areas neatly and consistently, completing routine snagging before presenting each bathroom for inspection.
- Protect completed work and maintain a safe, clean and organised work area throughout the programme, placing all waste in the designated site bins.
- Work closely with the Site Manager to maintain the agreed bathroom release sequence and programme.
Skills, Experience, and Qualifications:
- Proven experience delivering high-volume residential development or similar repetitive multi-unit tiling packages, with consistently high-quality finishes.
- Must operate as a self-employed contractor and be responsible for own tax and National Insurance liabilities.
- Must provide evidence of valid Public Liability Insurance and a task-specific Risk Assessment and Method Statement (RAMS) before commencing work.
- Must provide all equipment and tools required to complete the works, including tile cutters, wet saws, mixing equipment, hand tools, dust extraction and appropriate PPE/RPE.
- Must be capable of maintaining the output required to complete approximately 800 m² across 31 bathrooms within the 11-week programme. Based on the repetitive layout and site preparation, the required average output is approximately 14.5 m² per working day.
Payment Options:
- A fixed labour-only rate of £28.00 per m² applies to the completed bathroom wall and floor tiling. The rate includes setting out, cutting, fixing, grouting, final cleaning, routine snagging, installation of HardieBacker board to the OSB floors, and construction and tiling of the standard timber-and-plywood bath-panel frame.
The package has been organised to support efficient production. Bathrooms are clean, empty and released in sequence; plumbing and baths are installed by others; and all tiles and fixing materials are delivered close to each work area. At an output of 14-16 m² per day, the measured rate equates to approximately £392-£448 per day, subject to completed and approved output. This is an illustration only and is not a guaranteed daily payment.
- DBR Builders (NW) Ltd will supply all tiles, adhesives, grout, sealants, HardieBacker boards, timber, plywood, trims, spacers, blades and protection materials. The contractor must supply all labour, equipment, tools and appropriate PPE/RPE required to complete the works.
- Payment will be processed weekly against approved booking sheets and valid invoices, based on measured and fully completed work accepted by the Site Manager. Payments are made on Fridays for the preceding week's approved work, subject to the subcontract terms and any applicable CIS deduction.
Additional Information: The site is in Wigan town centre, approximately an eight-minute walk from Wigan railway station. Parking close to the site will be provided. The programme runs from 24th August 2026 to 30th October 2026. Working hours are Monday-Friday 07:30-17:00, with optional Saturday working from 08:00-15:00 subject to site requirements. Sunday and Bank Holiday working requires prior approval.
