Job description
Personal Assistant / Support Worker (Part-Time)
A permanent part-time opportunity is available for a Female Personal Assistant to support a 26-year-old woman with mild, lifelong conditions following a stroke.
The role focuses on supporting the client to achieve an enriching and joyful quality of life, helping her to feel confident, secure, and empowered in her abilities.
No personal care is involved.
The position is for 3 days a week, with fixed times and days. It is based in Bourne, Lincolnshire.
Pay: £12.71 per hour (in line with national minimum wage guidelines where applicable)
Essential Attributes
- Warm, friendly and easy to get along with, as we will spend a significant amount of one-to-one time together
- Reliable, trustworthy and able to maintain confidentiality and appropriate professional boundaries
- Patient and calm, particularly when I am tired, overwhelmed or need more time to do something
- Able to support me in a way that promotes my independence, rather than automatically doing things for me
- Comfortable providing both practical and personal support, depending on what I need that day
- Proactive and able to use initiative, while respecting that I make the decisions about my own support
- Comfortable accompanying me to work, appointments, social occasions, shopping, days out and other activities
- Happy to support me with getting ready, including choosing outfits, styling my hair and applying makeup when needed
- Able to French braid hair
- Comfortable helping with everyday tasks that I may find difficult to complete independently
- Willing to learn and assist with my physiotherapy exercises
- Willing to learn about my lifelong disabilities and health conditions, including how they affect me as an individual, rather than making assumptions
- Able to remain calm and reassuring if I become unwell, and willing to learn how best to support me in these situations
- Comfortable with the fact that my support needs can vary from day to day
- Flexible enough to provide occasional sickness and holiday cover where possible
- Full clean driving licence and willingness to obtain appropriate business-use insurance
- Enhanced DBS check, or willingness to complete one if required
Desirable Attributes
As this is a one-to-one role and we will spend quite a lot of time together, having some shared interests would be a bonus. Some of my interests include:
- Fashion, clothes and anything girly – I enjoy putting outfits together, shopping, doing my hair and makeup and getting dressed up for occasions
- Hair and beauty – particularly someone who enjoys styling hair and can French braid, curl and help with different hairstyles
- Singing and musical theatre – music is a big interest of mine and I love singing
- Counselling and psychology – I work as a counsellor and genuinely love what I do, so I’m always interested in conversations around psychology, people and mental health
- Going out and being social – I love spending time with my friends, going to parties, events, meals and generally having a social life
- Coffee dates, shopping and little days out – I’d love someone who is happy to come along and make these things enjoyable rather than them feeling like “care”
- Creativity and aesthetics – I love pretty things, feminine styles, decorating, designing things and generally making things look nice
- Spirituality and holistic wellbeing – I’m interested in spirituality and more holistic approaches to wellbeing
- Food and nutrition – I find nutrition and how food affects the body and mind really interesting
- Business and projects – alongside counselling, I’m building my own private practice, so my life can involve lots of ideas, projects and things I’m working towards
- Days out and travelling – I like having the freedom to get out, do things and have a life beyond my home
A little bit about me
I’m in my twenties and work as a counsellor. I’m quite sociable, chatty and independent-minded, and although I need practical support because of my disabilities, I don’t want my life to revolve around being disabled or receiving care.
I have a busy life with work, friends, appointments, events and various projects, so I’m looking for a PA who is happy to come alongside that. Some days might involve practical jobs or appointments, while another might involve helping me get ready, doing my hair, driving somewhere, going shopping or accompanying me to an event.
I’m very into fashion, beauty and anything girly, I love singing and musical theatre, and spending time with my friends is really important to me. I’m also passionate about counselling and psychology and have recently started developing my own private counselling practice.
Because we’ll spend a lot of time together, I’d love to find someone I can chat to, laugh with and feel comfortable around, rather than the relationship feeling overly formal or clinical. At the same time, reliability, confidentiality and trust are incredibly important to me.
You don’t have to share all of my interests. Ultimately, I’m looking for someone warm, open-minded and genuinely interested in getting to know me as a person.
