Overview
We are looking for a school leaver or young person at the start of their working career to join our small specialist glass manufacturing team in Cuckfield, West Sussex.
No previous glass experience is required. We are looking for someone practical, reliable and keen to learn a skilled trade. Full training will be provided.
The role will include
- Handling and moving glass safely
- Measuring and checking glass
- Cutting and processing glass
- Edge polishing and drilling
- Preparing glass for kiln forming and bending
- Laminating and finishing
- Packing finished glass
- General workshop and production duties
- Learning to use specialist machinery and equipment
What we are looking for
You do not need previous factory experience, but you should be:
- Practical and comfortable working with your hands
- Reliable and punctual
- Willing to learn
- Able to follow instructions carefully
- Comfortable working as part of a small team
- Interested in developing practical manufacturing skills
- Physically comfortable with a hands-on factory role
Good attention to detail is particularly important as much of our work is made for high-end architectural and interior projects.
About Us
Float Glass Design is a specialist architectural glass studio producing high-end decorative glass for designers, architects and international projects.
All of our work is bespoke — this is not a production line environment. We operate as a small, skilled team with a strong focus on quality and technical excellence.
Working Hours
This is a full-time position.
Normal working hours are mainly Monday to Friday, however Saturday working will form part of the role depending on production requirements.
This may include working some Saturdays, potentially around every other Saturday during busier periods.
The exact working pattern will be discussed at interview and may vary depending on workload and production schedules.
Qualifications
We are ideally looking for a school leaver with:
- GCSE Maths – Grade 4/C or above
- GCSE English – Grade 4/C or above
- GCSE Design & Technology, Engineering, Product Design or a similar practical subject – desirable but not essential
More important than previous experience is a practical attitude, good attention to detail and a genuine willingness to learn.
