As a Substation Supervisory Engineer, you’ll lead a team of National Grid Fitters delivering maintenance, defect resolution and operational readiness across high-voltage substation environments. This is a hands-on leadership role that combines technical decision-making with strong people management. You’ll support the Operations Manager with resource planning, team performance, capability development and day-to-day delivery, while creating a positive, accountable and performance-driven culture.
You won’t be confined to a desk. You’ll be out on site in overalls and a hard hat, leading work on critical assets and ensuring teams and contractors are set up to deliver safely, efficiently and to standard. The role covers maintenance activity, high-priority project support, contractor coordination, permit-to-work arrangements, Risk Assessments and Method Statements. You’ll develop towards Senior Authorised Person status, with SAP training expected to take approximately 24 to 36 months and including short stays away from home at our Eakring training facility in Nottinghamshire and other sites as you build your portfolio. You’ll also join a standby rota, supporting emergency readiness and black start resilience.
