The manager will have responsibility for a portfolio of client work reporting directly to the Senior Manager. This will include all aspects of service delivery from client take on to final reporting and leading on client meetings.
In addition to client facing work, you will also work to provide support to the Senior Manager on departmental issues including, resourcing, coaching and feedback to team members, ensuring compliance with the stream’s policies and procedures and the firms risk management procedures.
A key part of this role is also to actively seek, and keep the Senior Manager and Director informed about any new business opportunities arising at existing and new clients as well as taking a proactive part in business development activities such as proposal documentation, networking and actively promoting all BSO service lines.
Technical
- Managerial responsibility for a portfolio of clients and developing a strong commercial understanding of the client’s business
- Liaise with other streams and subject matter experts such as tax, audit, advisory
- Assist in research of complex technical areas and offer solutions
- Ensure engagement is completed in accordance with BDO methodology and guidance, professional standards and legal and regulatory requirements
- Assisting the Senior Manager to coach and brief the team on relevant projects, including scoping, roles and responsibilities and is the team's main point of contact throughout the project with respect to technical and non-technical issues
- Prepare/review statutory accounts and review of disclosures under UK GAAP and other relevant accounting frameworks
- Prepare consolidated statutory accounts, including cash flows
- Prepare/review management accounts prepared by the outsourcing team
- Line Manager responsibility, to include reviewing the work of junior staff in both outsourcing and accounts preparation teams
- Act as a mentor to support and develop the performance and technical knowledge of junior team members
- Is a champion in a specialist area e.g. software packages (Xero, Sage, QuickBooks, Caseware)
- Demonstrate, train and assist with the installation of new accounting software systems for new or existing clients
Commercial
- Act as a point of contact within the firm for the client. This includes responding to, as well as anticipating client requests/needs, and maintaining regular contact with clients
- Ensure compliance with internal (risk management) and external (legal and regulatory requirements) in performing all engagements
- Organise work efficiently to meet client expectations and deadlines
- Develop a network of professional contacts both externally and across streams within the firm
- Attend relevant local networking events and conferences and feeding back observations and best practice to the office
- Take an active role in billing and work in progress provisions and recoverability
- Participate in group, stream and firm wide activities, including development and delivery of training

ACA/ACCA/ICAS Qualified or overseas equivalent
- Have knowledge and ability to use various accounting software packages including CaseWare and Xero
- Have knowledge of various accounting apps designed to simplify processes and deliver insight
- Have awareness of consolidations and cash flow for year-end statutory accounts and to be able to prepare these if required
- Able to contribute to technical discussions with internal team members and external client stakeholders
- Ability to be resourceful and proactive
