Overview
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Wall and Floor Tiler for a short, to assist in completing a small listed building project. The requirement is for the high quality installation of,
- Large natural limestone floor tiles (flagstones) over underfloor heating panels
- Ceramic/Porcelain wall tiles to two shower rooms and a kitchen
- Ceramic/Porcelain kitchen floor tiles over cement board and underfloor heating
There is a need for precision and durability in this project, which is of particular interest to Durham CC planning/heritage officers.
This position offers an opportunity to work on a rewarding residential heritage project overlooking the river Tees, bringing craftsmanship and attention to detail to every task.
Your expertise will help restore these dearly valued historic cottages, once housing the workers at the adjacent water mill.
Duties
- Prepare surfaces by cleaning, leveling, and applying primers to ensure optimal adhesion of tiles
- Measure and mark layouts accurately using schematics, blueprints, or technical drawings
- Cut tiles precisely using hand tools such as tile saws, chisels, and power tools to fit specific spaces
- Install wall and floor tiles with appropriate adhesives, grout, and sealants for long-lasting results
- Follow safety protocols and maintain a clean work environment throughout each project
- Collaborate with other trades to coordinate seamless finishes
- Inspect completed work for quality control, ensuring high standards
Experience
- Proven construction experience with a focus on tiling
- Ideally experienced in other trades such as carpentry, plastering, or painting
- Skilled in using hand tools and power tools for cutting, shaping, and installing tiles
- Knowledge of surface preparation techniques to ensure proper adhesion of tiles
- Ability to read and interpret project specifications and safety guidelines
- Prior experience working on residential or commercial construction sites is preferred
- Strong attention to detail with a commitment to delivering high-quality finishes
