Maintenance Person (Care Home) – Job Overview
We are seeking a reliable and proactive Maintenance Person to support the safe, comfortable, and well-maintained environment of our nursing home. The successful candidate will play an essential role in ensuring that the building, equipment, and facilities are safe for residents, staff, and visitors at all times. This role requires a practical skillset, attention to detail, and a caring, respectful approach, recognising the importance of the environment in supporting residents’ wellbeing and dignity.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out regular inspections of the building, equipment, and grounds to ensure a safe and comfortable environment
- Perform preventative maintenance on heating, lighting, plumbing, and other essential systems
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests to minimise disruption to residents and staff
- Diagnose faults and carry out repairs using basic electrical, mechanical, or general maintenance skills
- Ensure all equipment (e.g. beds, hoists, handrails) is safe, functional, and well-maintained
- Liaise with external contractors and oversee work to ensure it meets safety and quality standards
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance checks, repairs, and compliance activities (for CQC and internal audits)
- Support infection prevention and control by maintaining clean, safe, and hazard-free environments
- Ensure full compliance with health and safety regulations, including fire safety checks and risk assessments
- Communicate clearly and respectfully with staff, residents, and visitors when carrying out work
Requirements
- Previous experience in maintenance, facilities, or a similar role (ideally within a care or healthcare setting)
- Basic knowledge of electrical, plumbing, and general building maintenance
- Ability to identify and resolve issues quickly and safely
- Understanding of health and safety requirements, including fire safety (desirable)
- Good communication skills and a respectful, patient approach when working around residents
- Ability to work independently and prioritise workload effectively
- Reliable, flexible, and committed to maintaining a safe and homely environment
- Relevant maintenance or trade qualifications (desirable but not essential depending on experience)
Pay: £14.00-£15.00 per hour
