About the Role
Cemfloor is looking for a motivated and hands-on Trainee Laboratory Technician to join our new technical laboratory and distribution facility in Royston.
This role is ideal for someone from a ready-mix concrete, screed, aggregates, mortar, or construction materials background, such as an RMX Batcher, Plant Operative, Laboratory Assistant, or Quality Technician looking to develop a career in technical and product development.
You will support laboratory testing, quality control, product development activities, customer sample management, and the day-to-day operation of our distribution centre. Full training will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
Laboratory Testing & Quality Control
- Carry out daily testing of channel partner and customer materials.
- Perform aggregate and sand grading analysis.
- Prepare and test screed mixes in accordance with company procedures.
- Manufacture, cure and test prism samples.
- Record and maintain accurate test results and quality records.
- Assist with product development and validation trials.
- Prepare technical reports and laboratory summaries.
- Maintain calibration and upkeep of laboratory equipment.
- Ensure laboratory housekeeping and safety standards are always maintained.
Customer Samples & Technical Support
- Receive, catalogue and store customer material samples.
- Organise retention samples and testing archives.
- Prepare samples for shipment and external testing.
- Support technical investigations and troubleshooting activities.
- Liaise with channel partners regarding testing requirements and obligations on raw material change
Distribution Centre Duties
- Manage goods received and goods dispatched.
- Maintain stock accuracy and inventory records.
- Organise sample storage and shipment preparation.
- Load and unload deliveries safely.
- Support warehouse housekeeping and stock control activities.
- Assist with ordering laboratory consumables and materials.
Continuous Improvement
- Support Cemfloor quality and technical objectives.
- Participate in training programmes.
- Identify opportunities for improving testing procedures and operational efficiency.
- Assist with implementation of new products and quality initiatives.
Requirements
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
- Good numeracy and record-keeping ability.
- Competent in Microsoft Excel and Office applications.
- Practical, hands-on approach.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Experience
- Experience in concrete, screed, aggregates, asphalt, or construction materials.
- Previous experience in a laboratory, batching, quality, or production role.
- Understanding of material testing and quality control procedures.
- Forklift licence desirable but not essential.

Pay: £32,000.00 per year
