Job Overview
As the Laundry Assistant at Margaret House, your role will involve providing an efficient, high-quality laundry service for residents in a residential and dementia care home, ensuring all clothing, bedding, and linen are cleaned, dried, ironed, and returned promptly. The Laundry Assistant plays a key role in maintaining residents’ comfort, dignity, infection control standards, and overall wellbeing.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Collect, sort and label residents’ clothing and household linen.
· Operate washing machines, dryers and ironing equipment safely.
· Wash items according to manufacturer instructions and infection control guidance.
· Ensure correct segregation of clean and soiled laundry.
· Return clean, folded and ironed items to residents’ rooms promptly.
· Report damaged or missing items to management.
· Follow infection control procedures at all times.
· Handle soiled or contaminated linen appropriately using PPE.
· Maintain separation of clean and dirty areas.
· Adhere to COSHH and safe handling of detergents and chemicals.
· Support outbreak procedures (e.g: enhanced laundering during illness outbreaks)
· Treat residents’ personal belongings with respect and care.
· Ensure clothing is clearly labelled and organised.
· Maintain residents’ dignity and privacy when handling personal items.
· Respond politely and respectfully to residents and families regarding laundry queries.
· Maintain laundry equipment in clean and safe working order.
· Report faults or maintenance issues promptly.
· Monitor and maintain stock of detergents and laundry supplies.
· Follow health and safety procedures at all times.
· Complete any required documentation relating to infection control or laundry processes.
· Support compliance with care home regulatory standards (e.g: CQC where applicable).
· Follow organisational policies and procedures.
· Maintain confidentiality and respect residents’ privacy at all times.
· Assist other domestic services where reasonably required.
Pay: £12.71 per hour
