We are supporting a school in Leytonstone who are seeking a proactive and dedicated School Caretaker to ensure the safety, security, and maintenance of our school premises.

- Have prior Caretaker / Site Manager experience
This vital role involves overseeing the cleanliness and functionality of the school environment, conducting routine inspections, and responding promptly to maintenance needs. As a School Caretaker, you will play a key part in creating a welcoming and safe space for students, staff, and visitors alike. Your energy and attention to detail will help foster an optimal learning environment where everyone can thrive.
Responsibilities
- Maintain the cleanliness and tidiness of all school areas, including classrooms, corridors, toilets, and outdoor spaces
- Conduct regular inspections of the building’s fixtures, fittings, heating systems, electrical equipment, and safety alarms to ensure proper operation
- Carry out minor repairs and coordinate with external contractors for more complex maintenance tasks
- Monitor security systems and control access points to safeguard the premises against unauthorized entry
- Respond swiftly to emergency situations such as fire alarms, break-ins, or health hazards, following established protocols
- Ensure that outdoor areas are safe and well-maintained by inspecting playgrounds, sports fields, and pathways
- Keep detailed records of maintenance activities, safety checks, and incidents to support ongoing health and safety compliance
Requirements
- Proven experience in building maintenance or caretaking roles within an educational or similar environment is preferred
- Strong knowledge of health and safety regulations relevant to school settings
- Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting, bending, climbing ladders, and working outdoors in various weather conditions
- Excellent problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to addressing maintenance issues
- Good communication skills to liaise effectively with staff, contractors, and emergency services
- Attention to detail with a commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and safety
- Relevant certifications such as first aid or health & safety training are advantageous but not mandatory

Pay: £16.00-£18.00 per hour
