Ashford and St Peter’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is every bit as special as the babies we care for.
We are the Lead level 3 NICU for Surrey and part of the Surrey, Sussex and Kent Network, providing expert care for 28 of the sickest and most complex babies using the most up to date ventilatory support techniques such as Vapotherm in the delivery room, Cooling Therapy and Nitric Oxide.
We have an 8 bedded Transitional Care Unit (TCU) where Mothers can remain with their babies up until discharge. Our focus is on Family Integrated Care throughout the babies’ journey and we host
the Surrey arm of the Neonatal Transport Service.
We are looking to recruit Band 5 & Band 6 nurses who are ready to work in an innovative environment where every team member makes a difference.

The post holder will
To be able to work throughout the Unit caring for intensive care, including ventilated babies; high dependency and special care babies depending on qualification and experience
To be able to work unsupervised in the Transitional Care Unit/SCU To take charge of an allocated group of babies or a nursery under the supervision of the nurse in charge.
To work effectively and efficiently with the integrated multidisciplinary team to develop, implement and evaluate programmes of care.
To contribute towards developing and maintaining a suitable and stimulating learning environment for students and for the ongoing development of registered and unregistered staff.
Following appropriate training contribute to an allocated area of responsibility which may include breastfeeding, infection control designated link nurse or any other area identified by Matron or Team Leader.
This is a post that follows a shift pattern that rotates onto night ,day and weekend shifts

The post holder will
- Promote and help to manage delivery of a quality nursing service,
setting and monitoring clinical standards in NICU and Transitional
Care.
- To be responsible for the assessment of patient care needs, the
development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of
care.
- To work as a Shift Leader and Deputise for the Ward Sister/Charge
Nurse after completion of unit specific competencies and shadow
charging. This is based on working shifts rotating from night and
day covering a 7 day week, in accordance with the nursing
philosophy of Ashford and St Peter's Hospitals NHS Trust.
- To take responsibility for an area of clinical practice appropriate to
the ward environment. This could involve audit, Infection Control,
Fire Warden, Manual Handling, Health & Safety and others
- Rotation onto the Surrey and Sussex Transfer Service after
completion of relevant competencies
