The Fifth Trust is an award-winning charity seeking a caring, creative and empathetic Catering / Cook Club Instructor to help make cooking fun, accessible and empowering for adults with learning disabilities.
This rewarding role is shared across two much-loved areas of our work. In Cook Club, you’ll support students to build valuable life skills through practical, hands-on cooking activities, while also helping to supply our on-site café. In the Vineyard Café, you’ll be part of an inclusive, supportive team that values personal development, diversity, respect and teamwork.
Whether you’re preparing delicious food, baking for our cake counter, supporting students in the kitchen or welcoming café customers, you’ll help create a positive environment where people feel encouraged, included and proud of what they achieve.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook food to a high standard, including baking to keep our café cake counter stocked and inviting.
- Follow food safety and hygiene practices, keeping the kitchen clean, organised and welcoming.
- Support with stock ordering when required.
- Lead and guide a small group of students through cooking tasks, offering encouragement and tailored support to each person.
- Develop fresh, engaging activities that help students build confidence, skills and enjoyment in the kitchen.
- Create a calm, supportive and inclusive learning environment that promotes focus, wellbeing and a sense of achievement.
- Monitor each student’s progress and adapt activities to suit their changing needs, interests and abilities.
What We’re Looking For
· A genuine enjoyment of home cooking and baking.
· A good understanding of food safety and hygiene standards.
· Experience making jam or chutney (preferred but not essential - we’re happy to support the right person to learn).
· Experience in hospitality would be helpful, but it isn’t essential.
· Patience, empathy and clear communication skills.
· The ability to work well as part of a diverse team and support others with kindness and respect.
· A positive attitude, a willingness to learn and a passion for helping people thrive.
What We Offer
· A friendly, inclusive workplace where everyone is valued and supported.
· Training and development opportunities to help you grow in the role.
· Competitive pay and staff benefits.
· The opportunity to make a meaningful difference every day in a caring, purpose-led environment.
· Pension scheme.
· Christmas shutdown.
· 20 days’ holiday per annum, plus TOIL for bank holiday working.
