Location: Bolton / Liverpool

Working Hours
- Monday to Friday: 06:00–15:00 or 08:30–17:30
- Saturday: 06:30–13:00 (rota basis)
- Occasional Bank Holiday cover required (additional remuneration available)
About the Role
Smart Solutions Recruitment is recruiting for an experienced Transport Manager on behalf of a leading waste and recycling business.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a transport professional with strong compliance knowledge and operational management experience to oversee fleet operations, driver compliance, and transport performance across multiple sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with Operator's Licence requirements, DVSA regulations, driver hours, and tachograph legislation.
- Manage vehicle maintenance schedules, MOTs, servicing, inspections, and defect reporting.
- Monitor Driver CPC records and training requirements.
- Support and manage drivers and Driver Foremen, promoting a strong safety culture.
- Conduct inductions, toolbox talks, and performance reviews.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses.
- Monitor transport costs, fuel usage, vehicle utilisation, and operational KPIs.
- Complete incoming and outgoing weighbridge transactions.
- Liaise with workshops, contractors, and regulatory bodies as required.
- Support fleet development, business growth, and contingency planning.
Requirements
Essential
- Strong knowledge of UK transport legislation and DVSA compliance.
- Experience managing compliance within a multi-vehicle transport operation.
- Excellent organisational, communication, and leadership skills.
- IT literate with experience using Microsoft Office and transport systems.
Desirable
- CPC in Road Haulage Operations (or working towards).
- Experience with Skip, RoRo, or Trade Waste vehicles.
- IOSH/NEBOSH qualification or strong Health & Safety knowledge.
- Knowledge of FORS accreditation standards.
