Assistant Manager / Tyre Fitter

Due to continued growth and investment, we are looking for an experienced and hands-on Assistant Manager / Tyre Fitter to join our busy team in Canterbury.
We are looking for someone who is currently working in a management role or has previous management experience, ideally within the tyre or automotive industry. You will need to be confident managing and leading a team while also being hands-on in the workshop.
This is a full-time position with a varied role covering team management, customer service, workshop operations and tyre fitting.
The Role
Working closely with the management team, you will help oversee the daily running of our tyre centre, manage and support staff, maintain high standards of customer service and ensure the workshop operates efficiently.
This is a genuinely hands-on management position. You will be expected to lead the team while continuing to carry out tyre fitting and workshop duties yourself.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Centre Manager with the day-to-day running and operation of the depot
- Manage, supervise and support the team, ensuring high standards of work and customer service are maintained
- Lead by example and motivate the team
- Allocate work and help ensure the workshop operates efficiently
- Carry out tyre fitting, wheel balancing, puncture repairs and other tyre-related services to a high standard
- Train and support new and existing members of the team
- Stand in for the Office Manager when required, overseeing front-office operations and dealing with customer queries
- Open and close the premises when required, including securing the site
- Complete end-of-day cashing-up procedures accurately and securely
- Assist with stock control and workshop organisation
- Help maintain high standards of health & safety
- Assist with sales, invoicing, administration and customer enquiries
- Build strong relationships with customers and provide excellent customer service
- Help achieve sales targets and identify opportunities to increase business
- Support the management team with the continued development and growth of the business
About You
Management experience is essential for this position.
We are looking for someone who is currently working in a management/supervisory position or has previous experience managing a team.
You will have:
- Current or previous management experience
- Ideally, at least 1 year’s management or supervisory experience within the tyre or automotive industry
- Proven experience in tyre fitting, fast-fit or a similar automotive environment
- Strong tyre fitting and workshop skills
- The ability to carry out tyre fitting, balancing and puncture repairs to a high standard
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- The ability to motivate, support and manage team members
- A customer-first attitude and the ability to build strong customer relationships
- The confidence and ability to achieve sales both in person and over the phone
- Good IT skills; experience using TyreSoft and fleet software would be an advantage
- A practical, organised and hands-on approach
- Excellent attention to detail and good problem-solving skills
- The ability to work effectively in a busy environment
- A flexible and reliable approach to work
- A full UK driving licence
