Herd Manager – Near Glastonbury
We’re looking for a Herd Manager with a strong passion for animal health and welfare to join our dairy team in a large-scale farming and processing business near Glastonbury.
The Business
- 800 Holstein Friesian cows
- Müller Direct contract
- Milking 3x daily on a 60-point rotary
- In-house forage production
The Role
A hands-on position working with cows daily, including:
- Improving herd health, performance, and welfare
- Monitoring and maintaining SCC and Bactoscan levels
- Fertility management, including AI
- Fresh cow health monitoring
- Providing basic foot care (first aid level)
- Relief milking as required
- Overseeing day-to-day activities of the herd team
- Working alongside vet and nutritionist on herd health
- Participating in an out-of-hours/on-call rota
The Person
- Strong team player with good communication skills
- Solid knowledge of cow and herd health
- Experience with large dairy herds
- Ideally AI and foot trimming trained (recent experience preferred)
- Proven experience managing or supervising a small team
