We are recruiting on behalf of a welcoming and forward-thinking special school in Farnborough for pupils aged 4-16. The school supports children with Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD) across its primary and secondary settings, alongside a specialist SEMH provision for students aged 9-16.

The Role
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will provide tailored support to students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs, helping them engage positively with learning and develop effective strategies to manage their emotions and behaviour.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing one-to-one and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs.
- Building positive, trusting relationships with students.
- Supporting pupils to regulate their emotions and behaviour.
- Promoting engagement, confidence and independence.
- Assisting teachers in delivering engaging and accessible lessons.
- Encouraging positive behaviour and helping pupils overcome barriers to learning.
- Working closely with teachers, therapists and other professionals to provide consistent support.
- Helping to create a safe, nurturing and inclusive learning environment.
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who:
- Has experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs, SEND or challenging behaviour.
- Is calm, patient, resilient and empathetic.
- Has excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Can remain positive and adaptable in a dynamic school environment.
- Is passionate about supporting vulnerable young people to achieve their full potential.
- Is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
Previous experience within a special school, alternative provision, youth work, residential care or a similar setting is highly desirable.
