Deputy Manager – Children’s Residential Home
Location: St Albans
Salary: £40,000 per year
Hours: Full-time, with the option to work 9am–5pm
We are recruiting an experienced Deputy Manager for a four-bed children’s residential home in St Albans, supporting young people aged 11–17 with emotional and behavioural difficulties (EBD).
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced children’s residential professional who is ready to take on greater leadership responsibility while continuing to make a genuine difference in young people’s lives.
The role
Working closely with the Registered Manager, you will help oversee the safe and effective day-to-day running of the home. Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the Registered Manager with the management and development of the home
- Leading, supervising and supporting the residential care team
- Ensuring young people receive safe, consistent and child-centred care
- Promoting positive outcomes, independence and emotional wellbeing
- Overseeing care plans, risk assessments and behaviour-support plans
- Managing safeguarding concerns and significant incidents
- Completing staff supervision, appraisals and performance reviews
- Supporting staff training and professional development
- Maintaining accurate records and high standards of compliance
- Helping to ensure the home meets the Children’s Homes Regulations, Quality Standards and Ofsted expectations
- Liaising with families, social workers, education providers and other professionals
Essential requirements
Applicants must have:
- A Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare, or an equivalent recognised qualification
- At least three years’ experience working within children’s residential care
- Previous Senior, Team Leader or Deputy Manager-level experience
- Experience supporting young people with EBD and challenging behaviour
- Strong safeguarding and child-protection knowledge
- A good understanding of the Children’s Homes Regulations 2015 and Quality Standards
- The confidence to lead shifts, support staff and respond calmly to incidents
- The right to work in the UK
