Our Transportation team sits at the heart of the UK Wayfair Delivery Network (WDN), designing and running the middle and last‑mile flows that get large‑parcel orders from suppliers and warehouses to customers on time and in full.
The Transport Team Lead is responsible for the effective management and coordination of transport and operational activities during the late shift at UK5. You ensure trailer movements, driver support, compliance requirements, operational communications and reporting are completed safely, accurately and on time. You play a key role in maintaining operational performance, supporting Middle Mile and Last Mile drivers, monitoring hub and bay activity, and ensuring that all operational records and safety requirements are completed to the required standard.
Work closely with delivery drivers by preparing trailers for dispatch, signing documentation and providing day-to-day support.
Motivate, organise and encourage the team so productivity and quality targets are met or exceeded.
Maintain high standards of customer service within the transport operation to deliver a best-in-class experience.
Deliver on-the-job training and support development within the department.
Ensure all warehouse tools and equipment are used correctly and safely, and report any issues.
Respond to email and verbal queries in a clear, timely and professional manner.
Keep work flowing consistently throughout the day and help maintain a clean, organised department.
Champion Health&Safety and environmental policies, ensuring colleagues follow safe and compliant ways of working.
Collaborate effectively with peers and managers, taking on additional responsibilities as required.
This is a floor-based role and will involve physically moving and processing products in addition to leading drivers.
Proven experience in the transport or logistics sector, preferably as a Team Lead, Transport Coordinator or similar.
Ability to plan, manage and operationally lead colleagues to meet customer service and productivity targets.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, able to build effective relationships with drivers, depots, HDOs and wider stakeholders.
High attention to detail and strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
Confidence to work under pressure and make sound decisions with limited guidance, using policies, data and common sense.
Working understanding of WMS and transport/dispatch systems, with intermediate knowledge of MS Office or Google Workspace (e.g. Gmail, Google Sheets) and the ability to learn new systems quickly.
Experience with performance reporting and updating systems such as issue logs, trouble tickets or failure sheets.
Basic analytical skills to compile reports and operational documentation as required.
