About Us
The Upward Group is a privately owned group of companies based in the West Midlands, with businesses operating across care, supported living, property investment, property development and construction.
The group includes Upward Care, an established care provider employing over 300 staff, together with Upward (Property Estates) and Upward Developments (West Midlands).
We are looking for an experienced accounts and payroll person to join our office team and support the finance function across the group.
This is a varied role and would suit someone who is organised, accurate and comfortable working in a busy environment. You will be dealing with payroll, bookkeeping, supplier invoices, payments, reconciliations and general accounts administration across several group companies.
The Role
The role will include:
· Processing payroll for a large care workforce, including checking hours, timesheets, adjustments, deductions, starters, leavers and payroll queries.
· Working with managers to sort payroll, rota and timesheet issues before payroll deadlines.
· Keeping payroll records up to date, including holidays, sickness, statutory payments, pensions and HMRC submissions.
· Processing purchase invoices across the group, including care, property, maintenance, construction and development suppliers.
· Preparing supplier payment runs and checking invoices are properly authorised.
· Raising sales invoices where required.
· Bank reconciliations and day-to-day bookkeeping across multiple companies.
· Posting and reconciling intercompany transactions.
· Helping with CIS and subcontractor paperwork for the construction/development side of the group.
· Supporting rent, property and maintenance-related accounts administration.
· Keeping records accurate within Sage and internal systems.
· Assisting with month-end work, management information and queries from the external accountants.
· Helping improve the way payroll and finance information is collected and processed.
· General accounts and office administration where needed.
About You
We are looking for someone who:
· Has experience in payroll, bookkeeping or accounts administration.
· Is confident working across more than one company or business area.
· Has good attention to detail and takes accuracy seriously.
· Can work to deadlines, especially around payroll and payment runs.
· Is comfortable dealing with managers, suppliers, contractors and internal staff.
· Is willing to chase missing information and get things resolved.
· Has good Excel skills and is confident using accounts/payroll systems.
· Is trustworthy and understands the importance of confidentiality.
· Can work independently but also fits well into a small office team.
Experience Required
Essential:
· Previous payroll experience.
· Bookkeeping or accounts administration experience.
· Good working knowledge of Excel.
· Experience with bank reconciliations, purchase invoices and supplier payments.
· Strong numeracy and attention to detail.
· Understanding of confidentiality when dealing with employee and financial records.
Desirable:
· Experience using Sage Payroll and Sage Accounts.
· Experience working within a group of companies.
· Experience in care, property, construction, maintenance or development.
· Knowledge of CIS or subcontractor invoices.
· Experience dealing with variable-hours payroll, rota systems or timesheets.
· Knowledge of pensions, statutory sick pay, holiday pay and HMRC payroll submissions.
