About Capacity Place
Capacity Place is a boutique London Market broker specialising in binders, facilities, fronting and reinsurance solutions for MGAs, brokers, insurers and Lloyd’s Coverholders across a range of classes and territories.
Launched in 2020, we are currently a team of five experienced insurance professionals and expect to grow to six to eight people over the next 18 months.
We work closely with our clients to understand their opportunities and challenges, focusing on specialty insurance solutions where we can add value through our market knowledge, insurer relationships and ability to find practical solutions.
As a small business, we operate with very little hierarchy. Everyone is expected to take ownership, contribute across the business and help make sure things get done properly and on time.
About the Role:
We are looking for an experienced Broking Operations Manager – Delegated Authorities to join our growing team.
The core purpose of this role is to take ownership of the recurring operational and delegated authority workload across the business, ensuring that key processes are completed accurately, efficiently and on time without requiring day-to-day oversight from the Directors.
You will take responsibility for the monthly processing cycle associated with our binding authority and reinsurance treaty business, including bordereaux, premium processing, reconciliations, DCOM submissions, binder documentation and follow-up with clients and markets.
This is therefore first and foremost an operational role.
We are looking for someone who enjoys creating order, managing deadlines, improving processes and taking responsibility for seeing work through from start to finish. You should be comfortable working independently, identifying what needs to be done and resolving issues without needing tasks to be continually allocated or followed up.
Because Capacity Place is a small business, the role will also provide broader exposure than a traditional delegated authority or technical position. Once the core operational responsibilities are under control, you will support the Directors with client engagement, market research, insurer submissions, placement activity and new business initiatives.
The ideal candidate will combine strong London Market and delegated authority experience with a practical, resourceful and commercially curious approach.
Key Responsibilities
Broking Operations & Delegated Authorities
- Take full ownership of the monthly processing cycle for binding authority and reinsurance treaty business.
- Receive, review, reconcile and monitor risk, premium and claims bordereaux.
- Identify discrepancies, missing information and processing issues and work with clients, insurers and other counterparties to resolve them.
- Prepare and submit risk, premium and claims information to insurers and relevant London Market processing platforms.
- Manage DCOM submissions and related delegated authority administration.
- Assist with the drafting, review and administration of binding authority agreements and endorsements.
- Monitor contractual, reporting and processing deadlines and ensure actions are completed on time.
- Maintain accurate operational records and ensure files and supporting documentation are kept up to date.
- Manage follow-ups with clients and markets and ensure outstanding matters are progressed without unnecessary delay.
- Identify opportunities to improve, simplify and document internal processes.
- Help build scalable operational practices as Capacity Place grows.
Broking & Placement Support
- Support the preparation of insurer submissions, presentations and placement materials.
- Assist with the development and renewal of binders, facilities, fronting arrangements and reinsurance programmes.
- Research insurers, reinsurers, MGAs, territories, classes of business and potential placement solutions.
- Help identify suitable markets and capacity providers for new and existing opportunities.
- Liaise with clients, underwriters and other market participants during the placement process.
- Support placement follow-up, documentation and administration.
Clients, Research & Business Development
- Support client and insurer meetings and ongoing relationship management.
- Research prospective clients, markets and new business opportunities.
- Assist with the assessment and development of new insurance propositions.
- Prepare research, analysis and materials to support new business discussions.
- Contribute to wider projects and initiatives as Capacity Place continues to develop.
As a small team, we do not operate with rigid job boundaries. Everyone is expected to help where needed, but the priority for this role will always be ensuring that the operational side of the business is well controlled and runs smoothly.
Experience and Skills
We are looking for someone with a strong grounding in the Lloyd’s and London insurance market and practical experience of delegated authority business.
You are likely to have:
- At least 3–5 years’ relevant experience within the Lloyd’s and London insurance market.
- Good practical experience of delegated authority, binding authority, MGA or Coverholder business.
- Experience working with risk, premium and/or claims bordereaux.
- A good understanding of binding authority documentation and delegated authority processes.
- Exposure to a range of insurance classes and an interest in developing knowledge across different areas of business.
- A good understanding of how business is placed and administered within the London Market.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills and confidence working with bordereaux and other datasets.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills.
- The ability to manage recurring deadlines and multiple workstreams without close supervision.
- A practical and resourceful approach to problem solving.
- The confidence to chase outstanding matters and resolve issues with clients, insurers and other counterparties.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Professional fluency in English.
- The right to work in the UK.
Experience with DCOM and other Lloyd’s or London Market systems such as Atlas, Crystal+, PPL or Whitespace would be advantageous, although we do not expect candidates to have used every system.
The Person
We are looking for someone who takes genuine ownership of their work.
You should enjoy process-oriented work and be comfortable taking responsibility for recurring tasks that need to be completed accurately and on time every month.
You will be someone who notices when something is outstanding, follows it up and sees it through rather than waiting to be reminded.
You should also be able to step back from an individual task and think about whether there is a better way of doing it. As the business grows, we want this person to help us improve processes, reduce unnecessary manual work and create greater consistency across our operations.
At the same time, we do not want someone who is interested only in processing. You should be curious about the wider insurance business, interested in different classes and territories and willing to support research, placements and client work when required.
This role may suit someone currently working in delegated authority, broking operations, underwriting operations or another technical London Market role who wants greater ownership and broader exposure within a smaller business.
We particularly value people who are:
- Reliable and highly organised.
- Process-oriented and detail-focused.
- Comfortable working independently.
- Proactive rather than reactive.
- Resourceful when dealing with unfamiliar problems.
- Quick to learn.
- Commercially curious.
- Comfortable moving between detailed operational work and broader business activities.
- Willing to take responsibility rather than simply complete allocated tasks.
Why Join Capacity Place?
- Take genuine ownership of an important part of a growing business.
- Work directly with experienced London Market professionals.
- Gain broad exposure across delegated authority, operations, broking, placements and client work.
- Work across a diverse range of insurance classes, territories and placement structures.
- Operate with significant autonomy and very little hierarchy.
- Help shape and improve processes as the business grows.
- Develop broader commercial experience than may be available in a more narrowly defined role.
- Flexible working arrangements.
- Professional development support, including relevant examination sponsorship and mentoring.
