Be part of a team delivering the next generation of secure military communications satellites for the UK Ministry of Defence. This work provides resilient, high performance connectivity for the UK, its allies and Defence personnel worldwide, playing a critical role in protecting national security as space becomes more contested and demand for secure data continues to grow.
Joining Lockheed Martin also means helping to shape significant investment in the North East space sector, with more than £100 million proposed to support highskill jobs, advanced manufacturing and longterm economic growth. Opportunities include potential satellite manufacturing in County Durham and collaboration with NESST – the North East Space Skills and Technology Centre at Northumbria University – helping to build a strong pipeline of talent, learning and innovation.
This is your chance to work on missioncritical technology, develop cuttingedge skills and build a meaningful career, while delivering lasting impact for the region and the nation.
The Role:
This is a senior opportunity to work on complex, mission-critical systems where integration, verification, and test activities directly shape the success of advanced engineering programmes. The role offers the chance to influence system-level design decisions, resolve highly complex technical challenges, and contribute to the development of cutting-edge capabilities used in demanding operational environments.
The position is responsible for technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk analysis, and supportability and effectiveness assessments across full system lifecycles. This includes activities spanning concept development, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance, and disposal.
A key focus is ensuring the structured and systematic translation of customer and product requirements into robust, end-to-end system solutions that meet technical, schedule, and cost constraints. Responsibilities include functional analysis, timeline analysis, trade studies, requirements allocation, and interface definition to support both hardware and software system development.
This role also involves resolving critical and complex technical issues, developing innovative solutions to broad design challenges, and determining appropriate courses of action to achieve programme and technical objectives. Work is often conducted on highly complex, sensitive, or novel problems requiring strong technical judgement and autonomy.
At a senior level, the role contributes to system architecture and technical strategy, supporting the development of advanced applications that drive product and business opportunities. The position may take on programme or technical leadership responsibilities and acts as a key advisor to senior stakeholders on emerging technologies and long-range technical direction.
