Overview
We are seeking skilled and motivated Steel Fixers with UKPN Entry Passport to join our team on critical substation projects. In this role, you will be responsible for accurately installing and securing reinforced steel structures that form the backbone of electrical substations. Your expertise will ensure the structural integrity and safety of high-voltage infrastructure, contributing to reliable power delivery. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on large-scale industrial projects, utilizing your craftsmanship and mechanical knowledge to build essential energy infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications related to steel reinforcement layouts for substations.
- Measure, cut, bend, and assemble steel reinforcement bars (rebar) using hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and other mechanical tools.
- Securely tie rebar cages and frameworks according to project standards, ensuring precise placement for structural stability.
- Collaborate with team members to lift, position, and install heavy steel components safely and efficiently.
- Maintain a clean work environment by organizing materials and tools, adhering to safety protocols at all times.
- Conduct inspections of installed steel structures for quality control, verifying alignment and compliance with technical drawings.
- Assist with other construction tasks such as masonry or carpentry as needed to support project completion.
Experience
- Proven experience as a Steel Fixer or similar role within industrial or substation construction projects.
- Strong mechanical knowledge related to reinforcing steel installation, welding techniques, and the use of hand tools and power tools.
- Familiarity with construction safety standards and procedures in high-voltage or industrial environments.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and efficiently; physical stamina is essential.
- Knowledge of roofing, masonry, carpentry, or roofing may be advantageous but is not mandatory.
- UKPN Entry Passport is mandatory
- Prior experience working on electrical substation projects or large-scale infrastructure initiatives is highly desirable.
