Home Care Support Worker
£13.50 per hour plus mileage | Community based | Driver essential
Safi Homecare is building a new team of Home Care Support Workers. We are a nurse-led home care provider and we are working to support some new care packages in Loughborough. We would like to hear from people who already live in Loughborough or Shepshed and would rather work five minutes from home than forty.
Where you would be working
Your round will be built around Loughborough and Shepshed, with some calls out towards Quorn, Barrow upon Soar and the villages on the edge of Charnwood Forest. Loughborough traffic is what it is, and someone who already knows which way to come into town at half past seven in the morning will have a far easier day than someone learning it. That local knowledge is genuinely worth something to us.
What being a Home Care Support Worker involves
- Supporting people with washing, dressing, continence care and personal hygiene, always in the way they prefer
- Prompting or administering medication exactly as set out in the care plan, and recording it properly
- Preparing meals and drinks, and keeping an eye on whether someone is eating and drinking enough
- Helping people move safely around their own home, using hoists, stand aids and other equipment where needed
- Shopping, laundry, light housework and the practical bits of daily life
- Spending time with people who see very few others in a week
- Spotting when something is not right and telling someone about it the same day
- Writing up each visit on our electronic care system before you leave
How we work
We are a small provider and we intend to stay one that people can actually get hold of. You will have a written care plan, a coordinator who answers the phone and a nurse to ask when something clinical comes up. What you will not have is somebody checking up on you for the sake of it. Experienced support workers know how to run their own round, and we would rather back your judgement than second-guess it.
What we offer a Home Care Support Worker
- £13.50 per hour for every care call
- Mileage paid on top, in line with our mileage policy
- A round built around where you live, so less of the day is spent in the car
- Paid induction and support to complete the
- Care Certificate if you do not already hold it
- Further training in areas such as dementia, end of life care and complex care
- A nurse-led management team you can reach when you need advice
- Room to move into senior home care support worker, field supervisor or coordinator roles as the service grows
- Workplace pension and a refer a friend payment
What you will need
- At least six months of recent paid experience in home care, community care, supported living or a comparable setting
- A full UK driving licence and the use of a car every day you work
- Business use on your car insurance, or willingness to add it before you start
- Confidence delivering personal care in someone else's home
- Clear spoken and written English, enough to write accurate notes and speak to families and district nurses
- Someone who turns up when they say they will
- The right to work in the UK
Useful, but not essential
- An Enhanced DBS certificate already on the Update Service
- Care Certificate, or a Level 2 or 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care
- Current mandatory training, particularly medication, moving and handling and safeguarding
- Experience of lone working in the community rather than in a care home
About the hours
This role starts on a zero hours contract. That is an honest description of where the service is:
Hours will build as packages are allocated to us rather than being guaranteed from your first week. Our aim is to settle rounds down into consistent local runs and offer contracted hours once they are established. We will tell you where your hours stand rather than leaving you guessing.
