We are a growing and well-established subcontractor operating within the UK water utility sector, delivering infrastructure, maintenance and repair services for major water industry clients. Due to continued growth, we are looking to recruit a motivated Trainee/Graduate Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join our commercial team.
This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate or an individual looking to begin a career in Quantity Surveying within the utilities and civil engineering sector.
The Role
Working closely with our Commercial Manager and Finance Team, you will assist with the day-to-day commercial administration of contracts and support the accurate processing of operational and financial information.
The role provides excellent exposure to commercial management, client applications, cost control and project administration within the water utility industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Collating and checking operative timesheets.
- Processing completed jobs and works carried out by operational teams.
- Assisting with the preparation and submission of client applications for payment.
- Monitoring and recording labour, plant and subcontractor costs.
- Supporting the finance team with the preparation and processing of weekly wages.
- Assisting with project cost reporting and commercial forecasting.
- Maintaining accurate records and supporting contract documentation.
- Liaising with operational teams to ensure work records are accurate and complete.
- Supporting senior commercial staff with quantity surveying and contract administration duties.
About You
Essential Requirements
- Degree qualified, studying towards, or keen to pursue a career in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Construction Management or a related discipline.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Excel.
- Strong communication and organisational abilities.
- Ability to work effectively within a fast-paced team environment.
Desirable Requirements
- Previous experience within the water utility, civil engineering or construction sectors.
- Experience processing timesheets, labour allocations or payroll information.
- Knowledge of applications for payment and client valuation processes.
- Understanding of utility contracts and commercial procedures.
- Previous administrative or commercial support experience.
