Shop Assistant – Small Hardware Store
We are a friendly, independent hardware store at the heart of the community, looking for a reliable and enthusiastic Shop Assistant to join our team.
This is a hands-on role where no two days are the same.
We are looking for someone to join our friendly team. The successful applicant will have excellent communication skills, must be physically fit and have good basic maths ability.
We offer full training in a supportive and close-knit working environment and an opportunity to grow with the business.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serving customers and offering helpful, practical advice
- Operating the till and handling transactions
- Replenishing stock and maintaining shop displays
- Receiving deliveries and checking inventory
- Keeping the store clean, safe, and welcoming
- Maintain accurate records of sales activities and client interactions.
What We Are Looking For:
- Friendly and approachable with strong customer service skills
- Basic maths essential
- Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal
- Physical fitness is essential as the job entails being on your feet all day and lifting and carrying
- A practical mindset (DIY or hardware knowledge is a bonus, but not essential)
- Reliable, punctual, trustworthy and willing to learn
- Effective time management and organisational skills to prioritise tasks efficiently
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
- Organised, proactive, with a professional attitude towards customers and colleagues
For the right candidate, there is a clear pathway to Shop Manager, with increasing responsibility in stock control, supplier relationships, and overall store operations.
