John George is a family run business that has been trading since 1725. The company provides nails, woodscrews, bolts & nuts, fixings & fastenings, fencing, sealants, ironmongery and building products to trade customers such as builders merchants, fencing suppliers, roofing merchants and DIY outlets.

We are seeking well educated computer literate Transport Manager, who is bright, experienced, ambitious and keen to drive our business to be even better, and who can take real ownership of the Company's transport.
Our Team
We are a geographically diverse but close knit team who are all passionate about John George, our products and the value we bring to our customers. You would be working with a Deputy Transport Manager and four Transport Supervisors to support the Operations Director.

Core elements of the role
- To work with our Deputy Transport Manager and four depot based Transport Supervisors to take full responsibility for infrastructure, health and safety and personnel for each depot
- To ensure the smooth running of all aspects of the transport department, including compliance, maintenance of vehicles, and customer service
- To be able to understand, prioritise and fulfil the needs of our varied customer base
- To identify and maximise any efficiencies that can be applied to the Transport Department
- To be able to act decisively with justification on behalf of the company;
- To be able to negotiate effectively at all levels;
- To demonstrate an attitude of accountability for all areas of work and activities undertaken;
Support the Operations Director to:
- Meet any targets set in relation to KPIs, maintenance and compliance

The geographical area that will be covered by this role is:
England and Wales on our own transport, carriers to Scotland, Isle of Man, Ireland and the Channel Islands.
