Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 1 year in the first instance.
A position exists for a Research Associate to work in Dr. Fusco's group at the Cavendish Laboratory (Physics Department).
The main focus of the research is understanding how the internal physiological constraints of the host cell and the external chemical environment shape the distribution of phage's life history parameters. The approach will leverage a combination of mother machine experiments that can elucidate the full distribution of lysis time and burst size in controlled conditions, and agent-based modelling that capture the level of heterogeneity in the experiments.
The successful candidate will hold (or be close to obtaining) a PhD in Physics or similar with a proven track record in developing theoretical and computational models to study phage-bacteria interactions and experience in designing, performing and analyzing mother machine experiments. A proven track record of being able to lead a research project is highly desirable.
The candidate will have the ability to work in a team and co-supervise PhD and Master students.
The post holder will be located at the Department of Physics, Cavendish Laboratory, Maxwell Centre, JJ Thomson Avenue Cambridge CB3 0US.
