Pay: £19.24 per hour + shift enhancements + overtime
We are looking for a Drivers Mate to support our professional drivers on night trunking operations, helping to ensure deliveries and collections are completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard.
This role is ideal for someone looking to build a career in logistics and transportation, offering valuable experience both on the road and within a warehouse environment.
Working Pattern
The role operates on a two-week rotating schedule:
- Week 1: Monday – Friday
- Week 2: Sunday – Friday, with Thursday as the rest day
- Start times are typically between 17:00 and 18:00
- 1 week in every 5: Warehouse duties will be required instead of trunking duties
Pay & Enhancements
- Basic rate: £19.24 per hour
- 15% night shift enhancement: 18:00 – 22:00
- 25% night shift enhancement: 22:00 – 06:00
- Overtime available with enhanced overtime rates
Job Summary
As a Drivers Mate, you will work alongside the driver to support the safe and efficient transportation of products. You will assist with vehicle preparation, loading and unloading, deliveries, collections and customer service.
You will also be responsible for helping ensure the vehicle, products and delivery documentation are maintained correctly throughout the shift.
Duties
- Assist the driver in preparing the vehicle and carrying out operator maintenance checks
- Ensure all products for delivery are correct and loaded safely and securely
- Assist with deliveries and collections in a safe, professional and friendly manner
- Carry out any special customer requests as detailed on the delivery note
- Check deliveries once they have been completed at the final destination
- Assist the driver with checking run sheets, picking orders and planning delivery routes
- Assist in planning routes and preparing requirements for each delivery
- Inform customers of any stock shortages or issues with their delivery
- Maintain customer confidentiality, particularly regarding site security and operational information
- Return all empty cases and gas bottles and ensure they are correctly stored in the designated empties yard
- Ensure all health and safety procedures are followed at all times
- Assist the driver with all required vehicle and delivery checks
- Ensure completed check sheets are passed to the Distribution Manager
- Assist with warehouse duties when required
- During the designated warehouse week, undertake warehouse duties as directed by the management team
